Let's be fair.
1) With the sample size of one Montana, we do not have enough information to say that they are all 59 HRC. More testing would be required.
2) In the graphic above, the Montana was at 61, not 59.
3) Magnacut at 61 may sacrifice a bit of edge retention, but it will do just fine for most pocket knife jobs. I do prefer Magnacut at a higher hardness, but the choice of 61 as a target is not irrational.
None of that makes it worth the price in my opinion, but that is my perception of its value relative to similarly priced competitors. However, I would not tell MKC fans that this is a bad knife.
