Anyone Here A Horror Movie Buff ?

Since there is some esoteric movie name dropping here :D I thought I'd add some from my collection:

Zombie (aka Zombie 2)
Serpent and the Rainbow
The Fly and The Fly II (the Jeff Goldblum ones)
Basket Case and Basket Case II
Sleepy Hollow
Christine
Angel Heart
Lady in White
Last House on the Left
Burnt Offerings
The Crazies
Freaks

Interesting.
Serpent and the Rainbow is another good one!

The Last House on the Left was Wes Craven's first movie. At the time, it created quite a stir, but by today's standards you wouldn't believe people were scared by that or that they believed special effects like ballons stuffed with fake blood for intestines, etc.

Sleepy Hollow was a BEAUTIFULLY show movie! I have it on DVD.

Hey, I saw "Stay Alive" last night. (Opening night, I think.) The story was kind of stupid, as most computer-related movies are, but this was another movie that was visually AMAZING. Unbelievable art direction, bad writing.

Ah Freaks! That was one strange movie. I have an old dogged VHS copy that I'll have to upgrade to dvd one of these days.

I remember Basket Case 2. LOL! That was an entertaining movie. :) I don’t think I ever saw the first one though. IIRC, there was a Basket Case 3 as well.

Lady in White was an interesting film. It wasn’t perfect, but I liked it a lot. It had a cool mood to it. I’ll have to watch it again sometime.

Freaks is definitely disturbing.

Speaking of classics, Nosferatu is a great film. Anyone seen Shadow of the Vampire, a recent movie about the making of Nosferateu? The premise of Shadow... is that the actor was a real vampire. It's on my "to see" list, but none of the rental stores here have it.

The interesting thing about Freaks is that it featured popular "10 in 1" sideshow personalities of that time period. Those "freaks" were real live people.

I would love to see a restored version of that movie!

The previous posters are correct , "The House of a 1000 Corpses" may be enough to cure you. And there is a sequel.

FYI, it is on DVD. Here is a link to Amazon for that film:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00027JYLC/qid=1143404499/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-6336500-1518358?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=130

The picture quality is not great, but it is about as good as can be expected for this controversial film.

The Democratic National Convention was very scary, especially when Ted Kennedy took the podium.

I'm going to register.:)

Finish with the highly political horror films of the eighties and nineties, where even movies like Jason and Freddy Crugar can be found to have political meaning.

So they plan to put a political slant on horror movies? sounds like tripe to me.
I guess if one is so inclined, they will read whatever message they want from a movie. The only message there might be "if you party and have premarital sex, you will get murdered by a maniac" maybe it is all part of the "war on drugs"?:D
I have never heard of the movies "jason and freddy crugar"- maybe they are obscure political films?:p

Night of the Creeps is one of my all time favorites!

"Detective Cameron: I got good news and bad news girls. The good news is your dates are here.

Sorority Sister: What's the bad news?

Detective Cameron: They're dead."

Me and my bro are going to go see "The Hills Have Eyes" Tonight. I vaguely remember the original (heard there was a sequel after that apparently) but hopefully this won't be some crappy remake. We'll see tonight !

I just saw the TCM remake too, last night. I think the most disturbing thing about it was the crazy cop. .

He actually kinda helped me stay not as disturbed, as I will always think of him as tough but fair Sgt. Hartman with his *colorful* vocabulary..:)

Damn that movie was scary  ! My brother, who tried to be all tough throughout the film almost pissed his pants, LMAO ! TCM move over ! I ever go on a road trip remind me to not go w/o my dads handy .38 !

Caught two movies that had been recommended in this thread... Dog Soldiers & Bubba Ho Tep.

Both were exceptional. Bubba isn't so much 'horror' movie as a character study with a bit of Mummy involved, but I highly recommend it.

Dog Soldiers was quite good as well. My son (he's 8) even watched quite a bit of it (before mom rousted him to bed last night for school today). I had to explain what was going on when the Sarge got slashed across the abdomen (the guts hanging out). He was curious but didn't seem bothered by it. Well acted, with a couple twists I didn't see coming.

Another "horror" movie I watched recently... Queen of the Damned... pfffffttt... save your money (or your bandwidth). It's kinda lame. Also watched DOOM... Any movie based on a FPS that comes down to a fistfight (yes a fistfight) between TWO characters is guarenteed to stink! My son went to bed without anyone rousting him that night (it was that bad and he thought it was boring) The gunbarrel-cam was cool, but that got old, real fast.

A movie I saw once - late at night on TV, a long time ago, was a great horror film.

The name of it was Deathdream aka Dead of Night.

I guess if I had to pick the most terrifying movie I ever saw I'd pick The Exorcist. Wow, what a f**ckin creeped out flick.
