Looking at a lot of the posts here, it seems almost everyone has a decently sized collection of knives. However, there's got to be a few of us around here with small collections of inexpensive knives. I'm one of them. I own six knives, with a combined worth of under $300 brand new. And honestly, I'm trying to sell all but a couple of these in order to buy a single higher end knife, as I don't have the funds to buy much right now, so I might as well consolidate my collection into a few knives of differing styles instead of having multiple knives that are similar to one another. Who else around here has a small, inexpensive collection?

My knives are all around the 100 dollar value. Probably have over a dozen. Also have a couple cheapies and a couple 250+ knives as well:)

I remember when I had less than ten knives. I was thirteen at the time. That was many years ago. I still have a lot of inexpensive knives, and I still carry them and use them, too. Nothing wrong with an inexpensive (as opposed to cheap) knife.;)

If I don't count my kitchen cutlery my collection of decent knives is less than 10 pieces. Decent meaning not 5 dollar knives I got from gas stations when I was a kid.

Well, I'd prefer not to count $5 cheap knives as a collection, nor those cheap stilleto switch blade knock offs, but that's more because I'd prefer these knives not to exist. I completely forgot about kitchen knives, though, which means I'm actually disqualified.

At any given time I have less than 10 knives (EDC knives), but that's because I get a knife, use it for a bit, and then trade/sell it.

I have 2 folding knives in my EDC rotation and 5 fixed blades for outdoor activities. That's my collection 3-4 years after buying my first fixed blade. I don't shop nearly as fast as everyone here.

BM 14460 Blitz Assist
BM 10750 Vex

The NW Ranger is my oldest and the most expensive one, too.

I have 8 folders in my regular EDC rotation. Plus a few others I rarely use.

This does not count fixed blades or kitchen knives.

I really like the custom from your friend. Nice look.

I have a Large Regular Sebenza with dual thumb lugs and silver hardware, a tan on tan Busse Satin Jack Tac, a wharncliffe Spyderco Urban, a Swamp Rat Rodent Waki and a Victorinox Deluxe Tinker.

That makes only five. Still probably a much more expensive line up all together than many members with larger collections.

My Mother thought I was a bit odd at first at about age 9-10 in 1969-1970 for my knife accumulation and assorted fishing tackle and firearms. My knives were nearing several dozen in number at the time when you counted up my fixed blades and folders together.. I was an avid hunter and fisherman living in the deep south of Florida so the everglades was my playground. As I got older I still had a growing love of all kinds of tools that were sharp including axes and hatchets along with my knives as I camped and played in the wilderness for weeks on end during my hunting, frog gigging, fishing, ect adventures..

Rewind 10 years or so back from today and it was a full blown sickness with edc's (useres) and investment grade types(safe queens). The knives numbered well over 500 pieces and well over 10K in value.. I did some soul searching soon after that and decided I needed to slow way down to a near stand still and pretty much stop collecting and part with the bulk of my stash..

I came to realize I was far more interested in the historical origin of cutlery and the dedicated cutlers who devoted a lifetime and in many cases passed it on through the family for generations perfecting the cutlers craft. Subject specific are vintage slipjoints and vintage Bowie types, Arkansas Toothpicks, hunting and military and such mostly produced long before electricity was common and when cutlers used hand tools to make knives.

I still enjoy hunting and fishing with my kids but I must admit as amateur history buff, I get a real kick when I am sitting at my computer and reference books piled all about researching an old Stock pocket knife pattern or Fiddle-back pocket knife pattern from the early 1800's from some old cutler's small factory in Sheffield England who plied their craft for the love of the work.

I'm darn close. My collection is in the picture below. None of them cost more than $100, and almost all of them are under $50. I actually just sold the Cyclone to a friend a few hours ago to make room (read: money) for my next knife :D

I have about 20. The most expensive fixed blade is a $65 GL Drew and folder is a $50 BM MiniGrip. Many of mine are in the $20-40 range.

If you have an interest in Sheffield knives you might like to contact Keith Spencer at A.K.C.
