Same here. My folders:

Spyderco Endura 4
Delica 4
Native
Buck 110

They all get regular use, but for EDC I'm really more a SAK and MT guy.

I'm also a newbie with knives, so I only have 6 knives now.

SAK which my dad gave me.
custom ballpoint pen with knife inside
Remington Swift-lokt 2.0 4"folder (my first acquisition)
Benchmade CSK II fixed blade
Spyderco Endura 4 CE
And a Chinese automatic knockoff that I got for US2$. :D I use it to clean the crevices of my gun.

I'm looking to get a Kershaw speed bump and a CS mini-tac neck knife next, but I'm considering saving the money to buy a Spyderco Barong. Real nice folder, the Barong is.

I have seven with number 8 in the post

Case toothpick
Case Med Stockman
Fairbairn Syke Dagger
Kukri WWII
Mora
SAK - rucksack
Koster Nessie
Made camp knife

I'm not intending to offend anyone here at all, but some of you have an awfull lot of posts here to own less than 10 knives. I thought I was laging behind when I joined this forum and read that some had upwards of a thousand knives, I own about eighty or so. only about ten are users, as I tend to collect vintage production. Heck I own ten hammers, guess I need to look up a hammer forum.

you obviously are a true knife collector, 80+ vintage is quite a lot (and i do find that impressive)...however, i never perceived this forum to be primarily for hardcore knife collector's only; i thought this forum exists for anyone who has strong interest in knifes in all aspects...

so how many knifes does one need to be taken seriously here: 20? 80? 100+? most of the knifes in my tiny collection cost well over $120+ each, does price factor in at all? or do most of the people who reported in this thread to be dismissed (as you have already done)?

many here are primarily knife users, and most users buy only what they will use, and like to talk about what they should buy and use here, in this forum...

It wasn't long ago that I had less than 10 (was it last year? definitely I had less than 10 in 2007). I still have less than 20. 8 of my knives were $12 or less, but none of them are junk. :D

As someone has said, it's not quantity it's how much you care. This forum isn't a competition, it's a place to express a shared interest.

Well there are people here so there's always going to be *some* kind of competition, but you know what I mean. :D

I have less than 10 knives, on me right now ;)

Seriously, I have a few more than 10, for sure more than I will ever need. But ah, so what right? It is a fun hobby. I have to buy most of them through mail order and what you get is never quite what you think it will be from the picture online. About half of what I have bought gets sold for something else, the rest I have liked enough to keep. At least you are buying something with intrinsic value that could be resold if necessary, better than spending all your money at the bar or chasing some stupid little ball around on the grass :)

No competition, just many years in the hobby. It's amazing how after 40 years of being a known knifaholic, how many knives you acumulate. That's 40 Christmasses , 40birthdays, afew graduations, aniversaries etc. Not that I get gifted a knife for every occasion, but I have been given plenty.

Yep, I enjoy the hobby/collection aspect, but I don't think that it's good for me to have an unlimited number of knives. I enjoy having the right tool for the job even more. Right now, it's exactly 10

Opinel no. 6
Schrade 8OT
Victorinox Farmer
Kabar Dozier
Buck Vantage Pro
Kershaw Leek
Kershaw Chive
Leatherman Fuse
Leatherman S2
Mora #1

That's not counting machetes or axes, but I'm pretty happy with my restraint ;)

I have only 7 knives :(

Winchester folder 2008 limited edition (found in back of friends car) free
Winchester folder stainless steel (courtesy of Wal-Mart :)) 20$
Kryptek Spring Assisted knife (knife & gun show) 15$
KA-BAR Tactical Series VI Limited Edition (local juvenile delinquent :D) 10$
Some Chinese knife with no name (knife & gun show) 5$
Smith & Wesson Power Glide (zuccini festival) 20$ though after researching found it for 10$
Smith & Wesson Texas Hold 'Em Bowie knife (was my brothers but he's deployed so now its "mine") not sure of the price

However the only knife I EDC now is the Smith & Wesson Power Glide

As of last Wednesday.

So, no. But most of them are fairly inexpensive.

Don't get discouraged, they'll come in time. If you got them all at once, you wouldn't appreciate them. Everyone has to start somewhere.

i prefer to have a small collection of relatively more expensive knives. i have 2 at the moment, each in the neighborhood of $200. i happen to also have one on order right now, and that one will be about $230 (and of course i can't wait to get it!)

Like I said no intention of offending anyone, I just saw it as funny, not wrong, that someone with 1400 or more posts would only own 10 knives, of course every one is welcome and the more the merrier, just being part of the forum helps feed my addiction, and that could be the difference between me and someone else is its an addiction for me, but there could be worse addictions right?

I think the true sign of knife collecting addition is when you ask someone how many knives they own and the don't really know. I know I have that problem ;)

"You mean how many do I own right now? Gee, well I have a bunch in the safe, just sold 3, traded for 2, bought 3 others, have two out getting fixed. . ." ;)

Once you realize you can't be satisfied with just 2 or 3 it is just a matter of time before it is easier to weigh the things than it is to count them. You're one of us and hooked! It is not about cost or numbers it's about planning the next purchase. If you aren't thinking about the next knife, that is when you might start thinking you are in the wrong forum.

There will always be the next one. Maybe not this week or this month, but it is out there just waiting for you to realize you have to have it. I have been collecting knives deliberately since I was about 15 and just got in the movies with a child’s ticket. They sell you those things when you get past a certain age. I'm past counting knives, past weighing them, I'm into the counting piles of knives now............ and trying to remember where I put that last one. :D
