Anyone into bicycles????

Yup, I like bikes. Here's my loaded Surly Long Haul Trucker on the Golden Gate bridge during my month long, 1600 mile tour I took down the Pacific coast last May / June.

I'm a bike mechanic at Gus' in North Hampton, NH. I love Trek bikes, they are the only kind for me. I have a 6.9 Madone SSL with my own 7800 dura-ace, a fat chance buck shaver with mostly XTR on it, an 1984 GT dirt race bike with Chris King wheels i built myself, and a 2008 Mirraco Blend LTD (1/250 made).

You could say I'm into bikes, and so is my dad. I'll get some pics later if anybody wants.

I was in LOVE with the carbon Y-bikes when they came out. That's a beauty. I bought a GT backwoods and put the same Judy XC on it. I think they were only 50mm travel but yours looks shrunken. Did you change the guts? I ended up putting a long travel kit on the XC. I then bought a 97 Zaskar LE Frame/JudySL/Wheelset and XTR cassette and built it up. Still ride it.

I'd love to see the mirra co. I build my own wheels too & bmx. I can't imagine what the king wheels cost you, i want to get a king headset, i didn't jump on the integrated or internal headset bandwagon yet.

I got the Hubs for my birthday and ordered spokes/nipples for em, so it didn't cost me too much :). My SSL has a Ti King headset, the last year before the Madones went internal. I guess we're old school because I hate anything where my bearings are hidden. The mirra is at my other house so I'll get some pics next week.

I just noticed your nick, I also have a vintage 750, a 1981 KZ to be exact. Maybe we could exchange pics of them in a new thread huh?

If you want to, i have a few. I like sealed bearings on my bike, except for the headset. Barspins slow down with sealed & its both easier to service and easier to find unsealed headset bearings if something goes wrong. I also don't like them because if you bend or damage the integrated cups your frame is mostly done for. Much easier to round out a headtube on them. When the eastern grim reaper came out i remember seeing people snap the headtubes off! BMX has gone in the wrong direction i think. No seat, no brakes, integrated stuff and light bikes. I run a 35lb bike, no brakes (i had a 100% odyssey setup, but the upper cables broke and i havent replaced them).

Barspin :-). Those are my specialty. Or manual x-ups. I like bar tricks.

All I ride are Treks except for the one Kona. I have had several dozens Treks and about a dozen at one time. Carfree since birth!

No road bikes yet, but I do have these

While it was fresh out of the box, before upgrades

The Fluid LT frame is going back soon for warranty soon and being replaced with this

range-1-600x356.jpg

Only thing is some of the parts I put on the Fluid wont fit the range, like my Crossmax Sx wheels and my 66Sl fork will be too long for it:(

I have a little more to do, would like to go over the whole brake system when funds allow. I'm finally getting this bike where I'm wanting it.

Ive got a Jamis Single Speed, and just installed a rigid fork. She's real fast on the trails!

I started riding this year to kind of
cross train away from running.

Got an ancient bike, had it tuned up.
very slow and a tank.
might get something better for next year.
I enjoy riding.

Some nice rides here.

Mine's decidedly old-school cross-country steel. Custom fillet-brazed frame and stem by Jeff Richman with an Amp rear section and fork. Weighs in at 22 pounds wet and still goin' strong.

I'm currently working on getting rid of as many old parts as possible by rebuilding a couple of old MTB frames. I re-did a Specialized hardrock into a fairly nice commuter and sold that a month or so ago; now I have a Giant Boulder (chrome-moly frame) stripped down.
I think all I need is a bottom bracket. Everything else I have around here.... Somewhere....

Here's one I just got on ebay for my wife. It's a '99 Ocoee with XT and XTR components... and a really nice Rockshox Reba

Sorry no photos, but I have 3 that are rideable now. My primary around-town, to the pub & back bike is a Specialized Crossroads hybrid. My he-man grocery-getter is a Worksman w/ rear baskets. I also very recently acquired a 1972 Schwinn Speedster- essentially mint (the plastic cap is still on the kickstand). I spent as much on tires/tubes as I did for the whole bike.

Wow some nice rides here! I spent some years as a manager at a couple local bike shops, I am also a master mechanic. I still do restorations/resurrections on the side, but always stay away from fat tire schwinns! My current stable includes;

'88 or '89 schwinn moab frame built into a SS/MTB with Ritchey wheels handbuilt by me, BB7 front brake, Ti V-brake rear, Ti levers, Ti flat bar, TruVativ stylo SS crank, Marz air shock (no stickers and I cant remember the model right now)

'06 Spec Hardrock frame built into a 21lb trail bike for the wife, XTR 8sp integrated brake/shifters, XTR 960 V-brakes, XTR cassette, XTR 8sp R. der, XT triple F. der, Sugino crankset, ~'92 Judy SL, XTR 960 to Mavic 28H radial front, Cane Creek old yellow high flange rear

Pearl white Electra beach cruiser for the wife

'04 Orbea Mitis Carbon road bike. Campy Centaur (old one that still shifts like record) full groupo, mavic Ksyrium SL wheels, Orbea Opal full carbon fork, Ritchey WCS carbon flat top bars and carbon stem, Tioga Spyder saddle.

'86 Miyata pista hand built wheels by me Formula to Alex R390 hoops, Nitto NJS steel track drops, Sugino 75 NJS cranks and BB, Dura Ace 7400 headset

'74 Schwinn Paramount P-14, fully restored by me except for paint and decals were left original. Full Campy Record Pista Groupo, Record high flange to schwinn super light hoops 36H-4X (and the wheel set still weighs only 1585 grams!) Cinelli olympic bars and hand enameled badge on stem. All bearings replaced with NOS record bearings! Brooks saddle.

'89 schwinn paramount OS frameset

'03 Orbea DH Box 1 (less than 10 in the U.S. according to orbea) frame set Fox Vanilla RC coil-over rear, Marz Z-1 150 up front.

'55 Schwinn New World Traveler complete but next in line for resto.

I think I still have a '92 Marin full rigid MTB sitting in the bushes out back somewhere.

Lots and lots of vintage high-end parts and wheel sets.

I just found a nice kid trailer for the little one so now I can get back on the bike!

Cheers

Xander-
