Anyone use their true grail knife for active cutting?

I kept wanting better and better and ended up with this. I love fondling it but don't actually have the guts to cut with it yet (but out of the box this thing shreds paper like a machine). How will this play out?
I think you will continue to do precisely what you're doing now and buy another knife. That is probably what I would do. I generally like Damascus but I usually don't buy knives made with it.

I really don't own a grail knife. I have some that I consider pretty nice and pretty much do what you do with them, don't even cut paper with them. Maybe some day I'll change.....?

There is a lot of practical sense in using all of your knives. But I find that bridge hard to cross on some.

I don't have a lot of really expensive knives. I do regularly use my most expensive pocket knives. I have not yet gotten around to using my nicest kitchen knife but that's because I haven't had time to sharpen it to my liking and haven't needed to do any prep work where my other kitchen knives weren't adequate to the task.

The OP's knife is gorgeous, and I wouldn't use it, especially with the Damascus blade. Nothing wrong with collecting a beautiful knife.

My own grail is a Benchmade Rukus that Josh rebranded with Vanax SuperClean. I use it everyday. It's a user grail, and that steel, with the geometry Josh put on it, is a dream to use.

Off the shelf knives pretty much suck (as users).

Depends on what shelf you're buying from. I'd say this is a pretty bold statement, to say the least.

If that was the case 99.9% of the knives out there would suck (as users).

I had a knife a couple of years ago when I first started getting serious about my knife collection (learning about and appreciating different designs, steels, etc.) and this knife cost somewhere around $190 which at the time was my most expensive purchase. I did something to it and the blade got a nice scratch in it. I was literally sick to my stomach for a few days. Then I realized that collecting for me is not about keeping a knife pristine but about having knives I can use and enjoy for what they do. Yes I have knives that I am careful with but I do not have a knife that I am afraid to make look less than new.

My grail knives generally consist of non stainless blades for that reason. My current favorites that I have are my Spyderco Bradley 2 in M4 steel and my PM 3 in 52100 because they look used almost right out of the box.

The grail knife(s) I don’t have yet is the Rex Military, hopefully soon to drop, and the Police 4 in K390 which with any luck will be delivered tomorrow.

PS: I just did a double take and YES ! your new CRK is in deed super cool and . . . as they say "To die for".
I don't sell my knives so if I had that knife I would most certainly use it because I would have it the rest of my life.
(you probably wouldn't see me opening a bag of gravel with it though).

That is a super beautiful knife you have there ! ! !
Thank you for posting it ! ! !

I've a CRK 21 Large Sebenza, Umnumzaan and RHK XM-18 3.5" that I considered as my 'grails'.These folders are in my edc rotation and are being used. In fact, I have no safe queens. To appreciate these folders is to use them as intended.

Yes yes and yes. I actually got a used version of my grail knife that was sort of scratched up (a Gareth Bull Shamwari) so I had no gripes about harming it cosmetically too much. The only knives I own that I don’t use are ones which I don’t really like to use for whatever reason (ie: I don’t carry a tip down only knife but may own it)

Now I understand there are certain super artistic knives which are likely best kept in mint condition as an art piece. Sebenzas, many customs or whatever I just use. I figure who should we be saving these knives for that will enjoy them more than us?

The only knife I own that I will not cut anything with is a Northwoods Madison Barlow with elephant ivory scales. I have two other Madison's, so not using it is no big thing to me.

I have a few Randall's that will get sold that have not been used. I see no point in using them now. I plan on selling them when I get around to it. The Randall's are kind of like Colt revolvers that I don't shoot and have no intention to shoot EVER. They will be sold and some folks will be very happy adding them to their collection. (Yes, collection. Colts are the only thing I collect versus accumulate.)

I have a TA Davison slip joint that to this point has not been used. But I will use it eventually.

I totally understand the concept of not owning a knife unless you like it and use it. Life is too short. I also have no problem with not using many of my knives simply because I never get around to it.

If it's too pretty to use, it gets sold.
I think I agree with this... and I think I'll start using it. I have other grail items from other hobbies I use regularly... but maybe just a

Thanks. I also am not a seller of my collectibles. I will have the rest of my life so will probably start carrying it, even if just for more select occasions.

Well put it this way I wouldn't have made my grail (modded / franken knifed it) if I could have bought what I wanted off the shelf.
Please note fixed blade knives have similar handles to mine for a reason; they work better in hand.. Case in point is my EDC earlier this week; a Buck 102 (fixed) is sort of similar to my Grail (folder).

Folders, most modern high end folders, have wide flat handles for another reason . . . they sit in pockets better.
There are limited exceptions.

Just as soon as I can get a folder with a grippy fairly trapper like handle in even better steel (M4) I will be reaching for that shelf and throwing money at the register ! ! !

My Pattada is close but not grippy.
My Griptillian in M390 is close but funny blade shape for my use; I need the Trapper clip point blade shape.
I could bang on with other sort-of-almosts-but-not-quites but you have heard it from me already.
PS: fixed my post above; added quote and repaired some of the misspellings.

I don't buy knives that I won't carry, which is why I don't own any examples as pretty as the OP's. I just couldn't .

I have a Holt Specter and I use it. The only knife that I use for hard work is my D2 Rat 1, but all of my knives see some use.
