Anyone use their true grail knife for active cutting?

My grails get used on the people who say "use your shit" or #nosafequeens while the first takes a picture of them cutting sod with a Kershaw.... and the latter taking a picture of them at work with a mint condition blade. But that's just me haha

Every day. What’s the point in owning a knife your not going to use? My hunting knives are customs with mammoth ivory scales, my edc folders are all “grail” limited editions and my fillet knife is a Phil Wilson. All of them get used hard, not cutting a bit of paper or some cardboard. Real use, cause that’s what they were built for.

A sebenza was my grail knife for the longest time. I finally was able to purchase one, I went with the knife art carbon fiber large 21 with an insingo blade. I carry it and use it every day.

There are top notch, well made, and expensive tools made for hard use. And there are decorated tools made for show. They are, and should be, mutually exclusive.

I use all my knives. That said, I'm an urban office drone and I have a lot of knives which I rotate between carrying, so no one knife sees a ton of wear. Everything from my ZT 0808 to one-off customs gets used and carried. And though I wouldn't say I often have hard use cases, I don't think I'd have a problem using expensive or rare (or any other definition of grail) knives for the task.

I wouldn't have a problem using the OP's Sebenza to open envelopes at the office. :)

I use my damascus large sebenza 21 on a regular basis.
When I don't carry this one, my usual EDCs are a large insingo 21 or a small inkosi.

I have other knives for specific uses or when I may do stupid things with my blade.
But if it is about cutting things that a knife is supposed to cut (paper, cardboard, wood, food, plastics...), I like using my "grails knives".

Good start, and nice blade!

All my grails get carried and used. They'll still outlast me.

This is me, basically. I'll use anything I buy, but I have so many nice knives that I'm rotating constantly. Outside of my favorite Southard and my whittling knives, no one knife ever gets enough use to show much wear unless it's the lucky winner on a rare abusive use day. My 0801 and Guru have both been unlucky in that respect because after scratching them up quite a bit they're my go-to knives for anything that's going to end up being likely to cause more of the same.

The only knife I really baby is my Medford, because they're poorly built tools that can't be disassembled or lubricated without self-destructing, as Greg Medtard explains in his helpful letter and videos.

I get a lot of stuff done with my favorites. No sense in having them if they just sit in a drawer.

Now, if I had a "grail" knife, it would be a Loveless drop point hunter with white micarta. Not as sure that I'd use it...

I had a long term need/desire for a Shirogorov F95T. I went 'all in' selling off a good deal of my collection to obtain one, in Vanax 37. That became an instant favorite. Then, something happened - I was using a CRK and then a Hinderer, both in S35VN, and managed to dull them quickly with normal use. I was immediately aware that I was frustrated that for my use, and my sharpening ability, the edges just did not hold up the same as the Vanax.

So the CRK and Hinderer were sold off and a second Shiro, also a grail (carbon fiber inserts in the handles), came to me. I was down to 2 pocket knives, so these were absolutely my actual, daily use cutters!

I've recently added back 2 spyderco's in M4 steel. I love that steel.

But I have no qualms about using the Shiro's. The thought that they were grails never enters my mind any more.

Hey jux t, you can't have it both ways.. not on this thread. ;)

A knife not used is a promise unfullfilled.

My grail was a Terzuola ACTF. I got one from Bob for $450 after I was car-jacked. Turns out it is a shitty EDC, but in a few years it doubled in value so I traded it for a Ti-lok and a William Henry which are not as good at killing, but much better at life's chores. I carry them regularly.

OK, ok... I'm slowly making some moves.

Good to see you're using it! Nobody said you had to cut drywall, scrape grout, or peel grip tape off of skateboards with it. Use is use. Keep cutting a few things and you'll like it even more.

Oh Medford, I know we all love to hate him, but I've heard he's retracted and apologized for some of his previous statements (might be a video on his YouTube channel), and has also revised his warranty and isn't shipping out that comically obtuse ACHTUNG!!! letter with his knives anymore. Still not for me though.
