Anyone wanna help a vet???

Personnally, I do not buy it. If the guys want to sell his knife and you want to buy, then by all means buy. But, just giving a guy you do not know at all money, for what purposes or why he needs it, while the thoughts and intentions are good, is not a good idea IMHO. Soldiers make good money in Afghanistan. Tax Free, combat pay, bonuses, etc. I hardly see $325 making a significant difference. Before I would just hand out money, find out why he needs it so desperately. Lost the money in a poker game? R and R in Bangkok? or wife needs money for diapers and rent? What is his rank? Etc... Maybe he just does not like the knife and wants to sell it. Many soldiers have several knifes and some are kept in their footlockers and "travel" around with them and then later some are sold. I have seen a lot of "Special" knives with logos and unit knives sold by other soldiers. My point is, if the knife is really special to him, for only $325 he would find a way to keep it.

"Special" seems like a relative term to me. Does "special" equal $50? $150? $325? $5000? Point is, the guy is in a bind, and folks here just want to help out. recondo4u makes it pretty clear he'd rather not sell the knife, but doesn't see any other way around it.

As far as the offers for help, I'm sure that his military service has something to do with it, but that's not the whole story. Something similar happened recently with a HOG who teaches 8th graders, and while he eventually found a way out of the bind himself, he had multiple offers for help as well. This is a community, and we take care of our own.

For me, a few bucks to say thank you to an active-duty soldier is a small thing, if it enables him to keep a knife that he really wants to keep.

Am I too late to get in on this? Did recondo4u receive what he needed??
It seems that he got a great response, and you all ROCK for stepping up to help keep him from selling a knife that he earns every day doing the job that he does... Even on Christmas, he was out on patrol.

...There are many like it, but THAT ONE is HIS.:thumbup:

No offense, or, well some, Think about what your saying here and re write it. Seriously. Right now I am more than a little pi$$ed off so I wont respond.

Jeeze, some people.

Good choice, leatherman. We've got your back.

Out of their own pocket.

Posted in the FS thread...

Okay guy’s lets call this off here. I have enough money now. I can’t tell you what this money is for, but I will tell you that it’s going to a good cause. We are working on a project that we are having to fund ourselves. The BATAC was the only thing I have with that kind of value to sale. I hope in the near future I can post some pictures of what you’re hard earned cash went to.

Thanks for what you have done. The HOGG family is AWESOME, STRONG and a TIGHT group and I’m PROUD to be a part of it!

THANK YOU!

Location removed at request of recondo4u.

If you want my opinion on how you precieved this situation, lets take this one up at the Wine & Cheese forum.

That cynicism will eat you up.

One thing that I have learned, is to always give people the benefit of the doubt.

Man, that's a good looking blade. I should have bought it. :p :D :D

I've tried three times to write a response to leopardprey's post but each it time degenerates into such vitriol that I have to abort.
