Personnally, I do not buy it. If the guys want to sell his knife and you want to buy, then by all means buy. But, just giving a guy you do not know at all money, for what purposes or why he needs it, while the thoughts and intentions are good, is not a good idea IMHO. Soldiers make good money in Afghanistan. Tax Free, combat pay, bonuses, etc. I hardly see $325 making a significant difference. Before I would just hand out money, find out why he needs it so desperately. Lost the money in a poker game? R and R in Bangkok? or wife needs money for diapers and rent? What is his rank? Etc... Maybe he just does not like the knife and wants to sell it. Many soldiers have several knifes and some are kept in their footlockers and "travel" around with them and then later some are sold. I have seen a lot of "Special" knives with logos and unit knives sold by other soldiers. My point is, if the knife is really special to him, for only $325 he would find a way to keep it.
