Anyone Want to Talk Traditional Fixed Blades?

Does anyone have the Hess Outdoorsman? I have rewards points at CK and I am thinking of picking this one up. I was going to wait and see if Hess would do another run of 52100, but that Outdoorsman in cocobolo with 1095 just may have to come home.

I would appreciate any input or comparison pics if you have it.

Gracias amigos

I have a Hess Outdoorsman. A heavy knife with a thick spine. I have not used it much. I will take it with me on my nest camping trip to put it through its paces. I really like it.

Bozack, do you have the 1095 or 52100 version? I wonder if they both equal in thickness.

Does anyone else have one? Or, knows how often Hess comes out with new knives? I wrote Hess and they were great, but I never heard how often they produce new knives. I tried to tal them into a copper pommel and guard. :D I don't think they were for it.

I would certainly be in for any Hess with 52100 and copper!

Maybe if enough people write them asking for it they will do a run. I personally would love the Tiburon with copper and 52100.

They responded that copper tarnishes to quickly. I let it go after that.

Anyone else want to write them an email asking for it? :D

I will send them one (for real)....

I believe mine to be 1095. GEC makes the blades for Hess. I do not think you will see a 52100 blade from Hess until you see one from GEC.

I have a Muley,
It is sharp and finished excellently.

I have always looked at the Outdoorsman with lustful eyes. Tough, but not huge. Pretty but not a wimp.

My only other fixed blade now, courtesy of Mark in his GAW, a swedged edc muk to me. Great fixed again from Black Mamba Brett~

Just got in a couple of (in my experience) rare ones.

The J Russell Buffalo Skinner is a 70's model with a carbon blade and ebony handles. It's usually only seen in it's Bicentennial version with inlaid medallion. This one is plain ebony and with sheath.

The second knife is a 70's Russell Hunter. It has an ebony handle and surprisingly, a stainless blade! This was an enigma because a rep at Dexter-Russell told me all the stainless blades were on the early/mid 80's reissue knives. Perhaps a transitional model.....the diamond blade stamp is different from both the 70's and 80's knives.

Beautiful blades Sak! I love that ebony, especially on the hunter. You need to get a group pic of all the knives you have gotten lately. Wonderful additions. What is the oal on those? Let me know if you get anymore info on them. Intresting blades.

One of my new ones. Took out a few limbs with ease.

Another one that should be here this week.

Thank you KBA! The 70's versions all sport 6" blades and come in around 10.5" OAL. I have some Scandinavian stuff coming next week and then I'll try to get a group shot!

Those kukris are beautiful!!! :D

My husband bought a BUCK Woodsman #102 knife for me at a big box store here in town today.

It is a sweet knife and my daily carry knife is still the BUCK #113.
