Anyone Want to Talk Traditional Fixed Blades?

I have a Russell Hunter with a carbon blade that accompanied me on lots of trips to the woods as a teenager and did it's share of skinning and butchering.

Would love to see a pic of it if you ever get the chance!!!!:thumbup: Does it have the ebony scales?

Very nice KBA . so have you been bitten by the kukri bug :)

Thank you good sir. It is hard to resist the DOTD over in HI sub-forum. I may grab one more that is under 15" and 20oz, but it will be a while...I think.:D

SAK - Thank you buddy. Thanks also for sharing your Mora info. Awesome response.

I would love to get my hands on an old Ka-bar .very nice 👍

Have to agree.

Here is one that I have been looking for that is now on it's way home. Seller's pic.

Awesome GEC Brett!!! Been looking at those.... :)

Samon, great collection esp. all your Moras!!!!!

I've had a Schrade Sharpfinger 152OT for a while, but have been looking around for a Deerslayer 15OT and found this one in a pawnshop last week. Had to reprofile and reestablish the edge (due to an past accident with a grinder) - but it's coming along now. A friend in Oregon sent me the shield (which was missing) - it is now epoxied in place and the knife is ready to try out during deer season. OH

Brett - I think you'll like that H10 :)

R.c.s - I can't speak to the Hanwei version, I went with the Boker version a while back. I like it but remember I had to clean some gunk off of the blade. Not sure if it was to protect it or what. Still, I like it and I'm keeping it :)

Couple of military ones in my collection.

Samon - great group of blades! Thanks for posting those

Trand
- Thanks buddy. I look forward to it.

RCS - I do not own any military blades and have not the slightest idea on the two you posted. Is there differences between the two? I plan to research them later. Thanks for any info.

EDIT:

RCS - Not sure if you saw this or if it even helps.

My husband picked up another RP Martin (Idaho) Blade at the University of Montana - Adams Center famous, old gun show last weekend.

He is having cocobolo wood put on it for the handle. The same man who put the black walnut handle on his Damascus ICE JAM Martin knife will do the new one. The new blade is another Damascus one only it is in another soft twist pattern. My husband wanted something a wee bit different and this new knife has a different pattern, knife style and handle.

He brought home a box of wood samples from his friend and I helped him pick one out last night. It looks nice in the daylight too.

Both of these RP Martin blade lengths are smaller ones - under 4 inches.

I like the Damascus Ice Jam pattern style, old fashioned carbon steel and a few other steels too. (Plus I love my Buck knives!)

The other knife show will start on Saturday here in Missoula, Montana. There is a note about it in the BF Community section here.

So we will see what is new in fixed blade knives. (And in all other blade STUFF!) My husband asked Robert about some other knives when he was at the U of M show and they will be at this knife show.

There are some beautiful fixed blade knives in the BF Buck Knife section too. I do not know how many of you read that section or not.

I LOVE the various pearl colors and the Native American-Indian patterns a lot especially in a couple of group pictures on several threads there.

I like another one that I saw online and it was a Buck traditional fixed blade knife with a BEAR on it and it had some pretty colors in that knife handle too.

Another thing, if my husband gets two more blades from Martin this weekend, he may get ironwood, another wood or another material put on them for handles. I love various shades of blue and was thinking of that for one handle too.

I would like to see another old fashioned knife made up for my husband in something like the OLD HICKORY knives posted HERE in this SECTION too.

Have a good afternoon! Take care.

Cate,

It sounds like you and your husband have wondeful taste in knives. I know I would love to see a few, but I also know that you are not on photobucket to share pics. :(

I peruse the Buck area occassionaly to look and the pics and you are right int that there are some beauties there.

Ive never held/used an old hickory style knife. That may have to be something I look into later in the future.

I hope you and you husband have a great time at the knife show.

Oh, Im a sucker for cocobolo knives as well ;) I've always wanted a nicely hand carved cocobolo handle on a nice swedged drop point fixed blade with a copper guard. :D

Here is a comparison shot of my 2 Khukuris
