Anyone Want to Talk Traditional Fixed Blades?

Tom, That is an amazing collection. Just, wow.

Mikael, I've been eyeing the Hess Tiburon for my next purchase. It sure is a beautiful knife at a great price point! Looks like it does well with some use as well.

Yeah!
You will not regret it and they come sharp as a razor!
Team it up with Your prefered chopper, a folding saw and you are ready to go!

WOW Brett. You really drew them out of the woodwork with this post. All of you guys have some extremely nice knives.

Double Ott - very impressive!!!

RCS - Love the kukris! I was up till 3am reading on them and different styles last night. I still have a lot to learn.

Tom - Love the ironwood good sir. I actually let out a verbal wow when I saw those two pics. In the leather pic, what is the first blade on the top left?

Brett, It is a knife that I picked up in the secondary market. It was made by Bowie Corporation. It is a clone of a Randall Model 19 Bushmasterer. I have looked for info about Bowie Corp and haven't been able to find much..

I also want to thank Chris, Jonerays and Phil for your kind words, Tom

Those rogues have some nice lines. Looks comfortable all around.

Tom, thank you for the info sir. It's a great looking knife

I can't believe I haven't chimed into this thread just yet Brett, thoroughly enjoyed reading from start to finish and seeing everyone's traditional fixed blades. Only have one that fits that 'traditional' niche at the moment. A early model Bark River Plainsman that I carry on the daily in this rig. I am mad max ;)

I own the below knives and gave my sweet folding and pocket knives to my husband and friends.

BUCK Ranger Skinner #113 FB Knife - I consider this MY TOP KNIFE!

I carry the #113 on a daily basis in a black leather fanny pack. Sometimes I carry it in another fanny pack that I use for the woods/wilderness that has a wee bit more room. I like the Buck sheath too. (I am still considering getting a duplicate of this knife too.)

Buck Vanguard

Grohmann-Russell Canadian Belt Knife #1

Cold Steel Canadian Belt Knife

I do not use folding or pocket knives any longer even though there are many sweet and VERY nice traditional knives due to my hand issues.

I LIKE the sweet BUCK #102 Woodsman but I did not get one.

I LIKE the original BUCK #119 Pathfinder knife but I did not get one.

I like several other BUCK knives and Grohmann fixed blade knives but I did not get any of them.

I like several BARK RIVER knives that I have seen ONLINE for conceal and open carry but I have only seen ONE of them in this town so far to handle and to look at in person. I am considering one of these for my husband. He wanted to get the BR Bravo 1 (A2) knife for me at SW the other day when he was off work. I told him not to get one for me because I was not positive if I really wanted one. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!

I like many of the classic Finnish and Scandinavian fixed blade knives too.

Side note: I wanted to try out another BUCK KNIFE and my husband picked up a Buck PakLite Skinner for me but it is not a TRADITIONAL style knife. It came with it's own case. I plan to use this while camping and even in the kitchen. I have not used it yet.

Cate
PS: I plan on using the GROHMANN and COLD STEEL knives in the kitchen MORE often too.

Brett,
nice thread and great knives! I love your Drew by the way ;)
Currently I only own one FB, a hunter/skinner pattern, but I might get more in the near future (probably a Kephart).
I don't hunt nor skin game but this is a nice knife for general outdoor purpose (I don't process much wood usually) :)

Fausto,

Beautiful knife! Thank you.

I do not hunt or skin animals either. (My Montana born and raised husband hunts. My late husband did not hunt.)

I do not use my knives for cutting wood. I use my Estwing camp axe for that job.

Take care.

Cate
PS: My favorite knife that I carry every single day in my fanny pack is a BUCK Ranger Skinner #113 fixed blade knife though!

I do not know if this will get more response HERE or in the BUCK section but here goes!

Between the BUCK WOODSMAN 102 and the BUCK ORIGINAL PATHFINDER 119, which knife would you choose and WHY for general use?

This would not be used for hunting since I do not hunt.

I don't use a knife for cutting wood since I have a camp axe in my gear. My husband has his own axe too.

So what would you choose and do you think that one knife has more of an advantage over another when it comes to these TWO BUCK KNIVES? The #119 has a 6 inch blade. The #102 has a 4 inch blade. Some of you may say, "Get both knives!" Okay. :)

Let us say that you are not using it for hunting but for general use in the woods and for a back up self defense TOOL even though you carry a Marlin 336C 30-30 lever action rifle. I use my husband's rifle for woods/wilderness protection. He reloads Beartooth cast bullets for me so I have a good RECOIL level on my body. Old accident issues and arthritis.

I have a BUCK VANGUARD and that has a 4 1/4 inch blade. Mine has the black rubber handle so it does not slip in your hand in wet weather. I did not see the other one in stock when I got this Vanguard with a credit that I was trying to use up when I sold the last of my handguns on consignment. I have small hands but NOT tiny hands being 5' 3" tall. I prefer a good handle not some TINY thing in my hand too. That is ANOTHER reason why I LOVE my Ranger Skinner #113 daily carry fixed blade knife with my old lady hand issues.

Now, if I do (???) get another BUCK KNIFE... I am almost leaning towards the original Pathfinder being the Vanguard has a blade length so close to the Woodsman. I have not carried a larger blade knife on my body that much. Handguns - I was used to that!

So if you were carrying a rifle in your hand or using a nice, simple, leather rifle sling or even NOT carrying a rifle - what would you choose? The Woodsman or the Original Pathfinder?

Thank you!

Cate

What... seven pages of traditional fixed blades and not one (ONE) Jagdnicker shown up here?!
It is hard to believe that this kind of useful tool is so unknown in the overseas.

One of my favorite types of pocket carry fixed blades; not a jeans pocket but at cargo pants it can be easily being carried in the legpockets

This is a PUMA, Solingen with its nice half integral construction.

I love that kind of knife :)

The 119 is the Special, I think. It has the 6" blade you describe. I like the 118 Personal, myself, with A 5 or so inch blade. If self-defense/security blanketry is an issue, get the big one. If the 124 Frontiersman is still available, it has a nice long handle. That's the one I still covet.

Nice setup and nice icons! I was looking at those boots, not sure that I can pull the look off.

I love that kind of knife :)

One of my first hunting knifes was the Puma Hunter’s Pal.

This was back when Puma was in their prime. Great little knife, useful and beautiful.
