dang what the heck? are those unexcused abscences true? if not a note would take care of it, but dang just dang. 500 bucks? that seems a bit stiff.

edit saw it was illness and ESEE fest, what a load of garbage, and are you saying she isnt a rouge kindergardener? :D

ouch.
I think I would appeal, especially if you called ahead of time and told them she would be out for those 2 days due to "family obligations" which would have otherwise left her home unattended.

Kindergarten is not mandatory in the state of Texas. Parents have the option of sending their children to kindergarten when they turn five, or they may wait until the following year if they feel their child might have difficulty in kindergarten. All children are welcomed into our kindergartens, regardless of their knowledge and skill attainment. . The only requirement for coming to kindergarten is that the student must be five years of age on or before September 1. There are no exceptions to this requirement

Well a couple of things gonna make ya madder....1. the school get state funding per child attended per day...so every day a child misses school they miss out on the money for that child....so it is not always about the welfare of the child...
2. If you need to take your kid out for a day or two...write them a sick note...the school can't call it unexcused and you will be good to go...I beleave the child has to be out for 3 or more days before a dr.s note is required(this may just be my kids school policy so you may want to check on that)

I'm so FREAKING pissed about this truancy thing I could dismember a kitten.

Never a single note or e-mail from the school about it, just a letter from the DISTRICT ATTORNEY!!

Makes you feel like a half rate parent.

And kindergarten isn't mandatory but if you choose to enroll your child the same truancy laws apply and they must attend 90% of the time.

dont take the anger out on the kitty! ;) and i agree that all that truancy thing is a load of BS, kinda bunk they dont even warn you and then they just send you that letter in the mail.

what's happening in the land of the free if your kids can't run free to a bit of fresh air at the ESEE fest?! WTF indeed

The thing that gets me is that the child was sick one day, better the next. Sorry, not taking her to the doctor for a one day fever. We send a note in and I guess they deemed it not worthy.

ESEE fest was a family function and she missed two days of school for it. I think it was worth it and I was under the impression that I was her legal gaurdian and parent and had the right to make decisions on her behalf but I guess thats up to the district attorney now.
