Are "Rambo" type knives practical?

I will probably start another one in either Custom/Handmade Knives, or in the Wilderness subforum. The idea will be to showcase either user HH knives, or safe queens, but either way, an excuse to look at HH knives. It will basically be a thread all about HH knives and either pics, videos, or talking about them, using them, or past knives that are no longer available, whatever. I will put a link to it in this thread when I get it started.

Looking forward to that thread! :)

Here's a thread about HH knives I did.

And really, who wouldn't find these to be a practical knives? They're badass.

Even the fictional character, John Rambo, had a like new custom knife --- one of the believable aspects (excepting a drifter having a custom knife) of the film.
Haven't posted or even been back to this thread in a while. :D
I have never served but both my brothers were regular Navy guys, thought I'd put that out there first. :)

SEALs and Army RANGERs.
I know and am friends with three, 2 SEALs and a RANGER.
They got(or used to get, don't know about now) pretty much anything they wanted.

This thread is kind of like beating your head against the wall.
Have fun ya'll ! :D

Of course they are practical but that's a loaded question to begin with.

How about when, how, and why are they practical! ...much better Question.

Looking forward to that thread! :)

Well, here ya go, lol! :D

Sometimes you just gotta scratch that itch, lol! :D:thumbup:

Ain't it so, Sam...

Doug…:D PS: Somebody oughtta' call Chris Reeve and tell him his HH knives are junk. ;)

Lol, him and his knives are part of what got me into making knives myself. One-piece knife? That will never fly!!! :D

This has turned into a hell of a thread! It's one I can finally be proud of! :-D lolz

Someday Sam, I will buy one of yours God willing! :-)

Ron, this is an awesome thread. Thank you very much! If you ever decide to buy a knife from me, remind me of this thread, and I'll give you 10% off your knife. ;)

Thank you,

Sam Wilson

Oh I have decided I will, it's just getting my financial schiznit together. I really admire your work. There's just so much to do and not enough Capitol to do it with. I will get it done someday. I appreciate the discount offer but you deserve the full amount for all the work you put in on your knives.

Thanks, Ron. I look forward to making you a knife someday. Don't feel any pressure on my account. Take your time, and let me know when you're ready. And I appreciate the kind words.

Wow. I am glad I found this thread. Absolutely great thread. I own numerous hollow handle knives from Vaughn-Neeley, Bill Sanders, Farid and Newt Martin. They are great knives and will serve you well. (Just like someone else said) if you can bring yourself to use them. Now that I have found out about Sam Wilson I am going to have to check him out.:)

Holy smokes, man! Those are some of the absolute best around. If you've got any pics, we're doing a HH knife thread here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...w-Handle-Knife-Thread?p=12932480#post12932480 Please, and I mean please feel free to show some of those beauties off! :D

True, the knife was made for the movie, but clearly, Lile, who I'm pretty sure knew something about knives and knife design, made it to be a practical, working knife for a survival situation.

Then doesn't it make you wonder about the knives made for the movie being destroyed during the filming of that movie?

No one seems to have heard of this but you. Please provide some some proof. We want to believe you, but earlier in the thread you were claiming there was no knife in the First Blood book. Your credibility took a pretty big hit, since you were totally WRONG. If you're gonna troll, do it right. Please, show us some proof. Thanks in advance.

You can look for yourself if you care, but also note none of the knives used for filming have ever again been seen.

Regarding the book, the author certainly didn't bother to describe any knife. You think his intent was for you to believe a drifter carried a custom made monster. That was nothing more than a Stallone "enhancement" decision/choice for the movie.

Ding! Wrong again. The knife I referred to earlier in the thread was used in the movie, and recently was auctioned off for I believe $78,000 or something like that. I'm sure somebody didn't pay $78,000 for a figment of the imagination. And no one argued that the knife was "enhanced." It was done so by one of the greatest knifemakers ever, and he did a great job. What's your point? And we're still waiting for proof...

Again, source???

As Sam noted, one did just come up for auction. Stallone got 1 through 6. The other five are either still with Stallone or in collections. I doubt a serious collector would even consider selling one of the original six. Lile kept 7 through 13 and they are rarely seen. Miles Welze has one on his website.
