I carry either/or. A folder or a small fixed blade are equally handy; I'm a plumber. Folder is an xm18 and the fixed varies but lately it has been a Busse SOB. (4.25" blade)

CRK large Sebbie clipped in rh pocket; Bradford3G fixed in cross-draw sheath on belt...Every day.

The only time I carry a fixed blade is when I go camping and even then I may never take it out of its sheath. Almost everything I ever do with a knife can be handled by a folder.

I only own 3 fixed blades.
Condor Bushlore with custom Kydex, Buck 119, and a Cold Steel SRK. I rotate these 3 when I'm hiking but the Bushlore is the winner most times.
But...it's all about the folders for me.
Seems I have too many because it takes at least 30 minutes out of my day to pick the right one to carry.
First world problems...

I haven't gone a day without it since it landed. I am absolutely loving the 4V. Some staining/patina showing already (pics tomorrow in CPK).

Only needed stropping to maintain the edge.
Aside from when I dinged it against a ceramic casserole dish, but that was an easy fix (just a slight roll).

Folder.I can pull my beloved Delica out everywhere, without sending the sheeple screaming for the hills.

I usually carry a fixed blade, folder, and multitool when on my property. When off the property, I usually leave the fixed blade at home due to my state's knife laws.

Folder 100% of the time, folder and fixed blade 50% of the time. Folder carried in belt sheath and fixed blade either neck , pocket or boot.

Normally folder because of work but really looking at the Guardian 3 or Mini Fox River for EDC.

Folder mainly for practicality and fits with my S&T day job.
Hunting, fishing, camping, and most times that there's dirt under my feet (phrase borrowed from Ethan Becker) I prefer a fixed blade suitable for the envisioned tasks; either on my belt or attached to my pack. If I'm carrying a fixed blade, it's usually accompanied by some variety of Leatherman multi-tool.

That said, I will often carry a BK-11 or BK-14 as well when afield.

I really like small fixed blades (bk14, esee izula II/esee 3, etc). I am a believer that no folder will ever be stronger or faster to open than a sold chunk of steel. I also find it easy to have a knife on my belt and not take up room in my pockets. It's just what works for me.

I live in Oklahoma where anything goes... but I work in Arkansas, so I just carry a beater folder most days.

Man, I really like my fixed blade knives. Feel great in hand, beautiful to look at. But I hardly ever get a chance to carry them. Not, IMO, appropriate at work or in general city life. Hunting, the revolver on my belt pushes the knife to weak side carry; hardly convenient. I still like wearing a belt knife when I'm camping, though. And for messy jobs like cleaning fish, fixed blades rule.

With the invention and my discovery of pocket clip equipped, one hand open and close folders, fixed blades have lost a lot of application for me. I can deploy a modern folder (essentially) as quickly and "reholster" it easier. Putting a fixed blade back in it's sheath requires me to look down, so I don't cut the sheath or strap, or stab myself in the hip. Folder just safely clips back on.

But I keep buying fixed blades. Go figure.
