When I'm camping, hiking or landscaping I carry a fixed blade, but that's it. I've tried to EDC a fixed blade before and just hated it. Even one as small as a SOG Snarl.

I don't have a collection of fixed blades for that reason. I like them, but they just lay around on my desk. My folders all get carried and used.

Aside for camping, i cant ever picture myself carrying a fixed blade. My ZT, benchmade, and now Rike folder all do a spectacular job for me, and i avoid the stigma from other people by not having a fixed knife.

At work , I carry a folder and not a pricey one . I work in construction/remodeling and I kinda abuse a knife sometimes because I get lazy and dont want to go to the van and get another tool ... like a pry bar [ oops ] . I'm currently carrying a Camillus Seize , a 10 dollar knife that Walmart had on sale and I'm quite pleased with it as a work knife .
On my property or in the woods , I carry a fixed knife . I have a good number of older carbon fixed blades that I enjoy
So , I'm split both ways

The older I get, the more I dislike modern tactical folders. I have started carrying both; a 3-4" fixed blade and a traditional slip joint. Since I live in Texas, come Sept. 1st, I'm betting my fixed blades get a tad longer.

Yeah, I find myself leaning more towards traditional folders and Swiss Army Knives as time passes.

With Texas lifting the ban on large knives being carried on September 1st, I'm kinda curious what the reaction would be if if I went to my favorite restaurants with my Trail Master on my belt instead of my usual folder. (Except for government buildings and air travel, no human being has seen me out of my apartment without a knife for many decades.)

I'm in the Austin area. Most of the time you won't get any reaction at all. I've been in every type of restaurant from fast food (What-a-burger, Chik-Fil-A, Burger King, McDs, Wendy's, etc, in chain restaurants such as Applebees, Chuy's, Rudy's. Bill Miller, Serrano's, etc, and in high-end Coat&Tie places. Naturally, with the coat, they are concealed but no one ever says much, even LEOs.

When I do get a reaction, the question is almost always "Why 2?" since most people never notice the BK11 in my LHP or the Pro_Tech TR4 clipped to my RFP.

I voted "both" because I carry both all the time.

This is my EDC. Literally. If I leave the farm, this is in my pockets or hanging from my belt.

The only time I don't carry the knives is when I have to go to the court house for some reason. Then I remove the 2 Kabar FBs and pull the folders and BK11 out of my pockets, leaving them on the floor of my vehicle. I leave the sheaths on to mess with the deputies on guard duty. For church (Sundays, funerals/weddings), I replace the 2 125Xs with B&Ts, but the 125Xs go back on afterwards.

I have been taking the 2 Kabar fixed blades out of their sheaths when I go into the Post Office for the last 5 months because my post office got a new Postmaster who got his panties in a wad over me carrying them, even though I have been carrying them into the post office for the last 4 or 5 years.

With the law change, I may actually rotate my FBs around. I have just stuck with the blatantly legal 5-1/4" Shorties to avoid accidentally packing 5-3/4" or 6" blades.

What I carry depends on where I am or going. But, if I want to make a blanket statement that is true 90% of the time, I will have a SAK (folder) in my pocket just about all the time. The fixed blades come out for specialty purposes like heading for the woods, on a boat, yard work, and so forth.

The only fixed blades I own, other than for food prep, are a couple of Moras, one PE, the other serrated, that I use when doing yard work. Folders are more convenient, and I haven't come across any cutting chore outside of a kitchen that they can't handle. The only other activity I can think of where a fixed blade might be preferable would be hunting, but I don't do that.

Ok, I will bite. Why? Not in a negative way but i am curious why because it seems like some of the knives are redundant and overlap in uses.

Spent the first 35 years of my life pretty much this way, except I still used folders while hunting. This includes Mora's and similar knives. (Had no use for them.) Things began to change with the release of the first Rambo movie (First Blood) and the attraction to knives as a hobbyist versus simply to use. Always liked them and could appreciate a well made knife. This also happens to be the period when I started attending Gun Shows and Knife Shows.

More often that not I'm carrying a folder of some kind. I work in a bank and live in the country. At work it's a small folder, at home it's a larger folder or a Spartan Enyo. But I've also gotten into balisongs a lot lately, so whether I'm carrying a folder or a fixed blade, I have a BRS Alpha Beast on me as well.

I carry an Esee izula at home and in the yard, does not weigh down shorts or pj's. Its perfect for house chores and breaking down heavy duty boxes (cat litter boxes). I sheath, or backpack a Lon Humphrey Scout when in the woods or camping. I carry a folder outside of home. Vic pioneer for when i'm going out at night (bars, restaurants). Spyderco Salt 1 serrated when I'm wearing shorts or bathing suit (feather light and a workhorse). I carry a ZT 0450cf at work and everywhere else

The back story is at this post...

https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/your-important-ka-bar-my-papas-ka-bar.1086041/#post-12491540

I work around equipment all the time. I do a lot of tasks around the farm that require cutting stuff. I find it easier to reach down, pull a fixed blade, cut what needs cutting and then replace it in the sheath. If I'm doing a lot of fence post installation or brick/rock work that requires concrete/mortar mixing, the blades dull "quickly" when cutting "rock dust covered paper bags". If I dull one to the point where it is no longer safe to use correctly, I can shift to the other one. I'll just sharpen both later.

Also, if one hand is engaged and I need to cut something, I can reach a knife quickly with either hand. And, yes, I PRACTICE cutting with both hands for muscle memory training.

I carry multiple knives of both types due to the variety of things I do. Beyond the paired 125Xs, the Kabar rigger's knife is primarily carried for the marlin spike. Makes undoing knots easier, saving time. I almost NEVER use the blade on the rigger's knife. I bought that 1950s model rigger back in 1982 at a pawn shop in San Diego for $5 + tax while I was going through Navigation Officer training prior to heading to Japan to be the Navigator on the USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19), 7th Fleet's flagship. It was one of the 3 folders I carried all the time. Prior to that I just carried a Buck 110 on my belt and a no-name stainless lockback. The PTB seemed to frown on me carrying fixed blades for some reason.

The small Buck is my go-to "small folding knife cutting jobs". The BK11 has 2 purposes beyond cutting stuff - I always have a Becker for when I need to take a scavenger hunt pick with a Becker and to open bottles. Gotta love Ethan's forethought on that one. :D

I have carried the TR-4 ever since Texas made it legal to carry single-edged, sub-5.5" switchblades back on 01 September 2013 -
A) because I can
B) to demonstrate to folks that switches are now legal in Texas. It's kinda shocking how many folks don't yet know nearly 4 years later that switchblade carry is legal in Texas.

I carry the digital recorder because I find it easier and faster to use in recording information than trying to write it down or get a smartphone up and recording.

I carry the whistle, a WW2 ARP Warden whistle, to recall my dogs when they get to running too far off while in a pasture and because, just like the Boy Scout motto says - Be Prepared. If I need to get someone's attention, the ARP whistle works just fine, and if I ever need to attract attention of searchers in the event of getting lost hiking (hasn't happened yet) or say if I'm down in one of the pastures with an injury, I can blow a whistle for a hell of a lot longer than I can yell.

And why a nearly 80 year old WW2 relic? I think British police style whistles are neat, they hold up better than plastic ones and they fit in a pocket better that the typical escargot style. And because nobody else does. :D
