WW- sorry for your loss.

I went to a funeral yesterday for one of the guys I went to high school with. Colon cancer got him. Even after what I went through with it and warned everyone about get regular colonoscopies after age 45. AND despite the fact his older sister had also died of colon cancer a few years before. Horses and water. Death is inevitable. We are all dying from the day we are born. But there is no damn reason at all to be an ostrich with your head in the sand. Just because you have a colonoscopy performed doesn't mean your gonna get cancer. It just means there is a chance of finding it early enough to do something about it. Just like preparing your will does not mean you're gonna die the day after you sign it.

Yeah, I know the doctors say "50" is the age to start but look at the stats for the #s being found "early". I was 49 and my oncologist said I was really lucky as it was a slow growing version and had been growing for 8 or 9 years. If it had been a "fast" one, I'd'a been dead 4 or 5 years before they found it. My little sister was 48 when she had one because I told her she needed to. She was found to have a Stage 1 fast growing version. If she'd waited to 50, it probably would have been metastasized before it was found ==>> "Curtains"

Sorry to rant, but this is one of my "Soap Box Hot Button" issues and I just got the button pushed again yesterday.

I don't put ketchup on everything, but there are plenty of foods that it belongs on, and I dont put it straight on steak. But I have a steak that is over cooked or not very good them I will use the afore mentioned sauce

It is good on:

Fries
Burgers
Hot dogs
Meat loaf
Etc.

I will allow all of those. Personally, I only ask for ketchup on fries and danger dogs (the slightly expired hot dogs sold by unlicensed street vendors that cover their somewhat funky smell by being wrapped in bacon and covered by grilled onions, jalapeños, mayo, mustard, ketchup, and then a whole jalapeño on top), but I will grant the others as reasonable.

But ketchup on an actual steak (not a hamburger steak or ghetto steak) is like pouring Diet Coke in good bourbon. I don't care if someone drinks Jack and Coke but someone who drinks Coke and Four Roses Single Barrel is wasting the whiskey. The flavors of the whiskey (or steak) are being completely covered by sugar and the rest.

I did the same thing when I was a kid (kid means anything before 20) with A1. I still like it on a backed potato. It's really all I need on a potato. But our tastes change a lot going from teen to adult and this will all make more sense to you in a few years.

Damn, now I want a danger dog.

Guys, I know I don't usually send a lot of "smoke" or well wishes, which is because, well, I don't know any of you except through the interwebs which is something I'm a little new to (at least posting in forums), and serious matters like death are something so personal I feel like me (a stranger) typing at you is a poor excuse for anything.

But every time someone posts about loss, death, unemployment, etc. here, my heart goes out to you regardless of whether I say it or not. And when good news comes, like WW's wife's job today, it brightens my mood.

For those of you with struggles, I've read and my wishes go out to you. And for those of you with good news (or no news which is almost the same thing), I'm happy for you.

And yes, zzyzz, I agree with you that early detection is where it's at. Except maybe for prostate cancer, which actually has a problem with being operated on before necessary. They've started pushing check dates for that one later.

For my wonderful brothers Dubz, AC, Zz and Dres, and anyone else who has lost someone close, my heart and prayers go out to you. It's making me very sad to hear that my friends are losing loved ones. All my best brothers..

C-Bear: don't listen to anyone when they say Mayo shouldn't be on chips (or fries as you guys call em) The entire country of Belgium LIVES for fries with mayo. Yum!

710: 107°f = 41.666°c. Yeps. Pretty warm. We call that 'winter' here :D Just so you know, recent global weather predictions have been saying there is an El Nino coming. But this is not on the scale you want. Scientists have literally dubbed it "the Godzilla of all El Ninos". I understand that some years back Cali was hit by a monster that caused horrendous flash flooding which tragically resulted in deaths. The El Nino they're 'predicting' is supposed to dwarf that one. I hope they're wrong. Oddly enough, the largest one recently only caused mild drought here in Aus but before that a during a mild El Nino we suffered some of the worst drought on record. Over in the western pacific we seem to be only ever smashed by drought. I hope you folks get the rain you need, but no more than that. Stay cool brother. Oh yeah, speaking of cool, that sheath for the 4 iz da bizniss!!

Thanks guys. My aunt had copd, emphysema, etc. She had also had a heart attack not long ago. For some reason, and whatever was going on in her life, she started smoking at age 40. She was in a lot of pain, and decided to stop taking the meds that were just prolonging the inevitable. My uncle said she was in horrible shape when she passed. Her face was black and blue, couldn't hardly breathe, etc.

Hope I'm not missing anyone... if I am, please don't take it personally.

Thanks everyone!! She got the job!! :D

Congrats to Mrs. Worldwood! See, she didn't even need magic, just her own hard-earned skills and experience :)

damn you all, here I am trying to eat less and all you people are posting delish-looking pics of awesome meals. My self-control isn't THAT good. :o

Welcome to Becker Snark :D If you're into health and exercise and stuff, I heard a rumor that there's a Beckerhead tradition of encouraging that, too

So does jimping...

Yes it does! :D

Had to go to a wake this evening. My aunt died Monday morning. Nothing sad, it was better that she passed, as she was in a lot of pain.

My condolences. I know exactly what you mean about it not really being "sad", but it's still a significant emotional happening.

Some of us have a palate slightly more refined than "Ugh! I make fire! I eat meat!"

Refined palate or not  I happily admit I'm perfectly content to go, "Ugh! I make fire! I eat meat!" :p
Whatever works, baby... as Warren Sapp once said, "What I eat doesn't make you shit, so don't worry about the taste in my mouth."

I'm still gonna call you a pretentious filthy commie if you marinate a dang steak for two days, because... SNARK.

If you mean bladesports ?

They are listed on the blade sport website... I'd link it but I suck on this phone. 10" blade 15 oal, 2" wide are the main things though.

Thanks again everyone, need the wife to get paid so I can get more toys.... Start me a shinnery :D

Bladesport? Is that the one that they have at bladeshow?

Bladesport? Is that the one that they have at bladeshow?

I have never been... But id assume any -other- chopping contest would also follow the guidelines to the official cutting sport... But again im not really sure as i havent been to blade before LOL

Anybody know the rules for the chopping contest for bladeshow as far as the blade goes?
Bladesport? Is that the one that they have at bladeshow?

Yes, and yes! The National Championships are held at BLADE every year. Frankly, you're missing out if you're there and don't bother to watch the cutting comps.

BladeSports comps remind me a lot of Beckerhead Gatherings... family-friendly, showcasing knives as tools, safety first, good clean fun! Those folks really know how to have a good time.

Here is the link for the BladeSports page, it includes all the rules for knives. Donavon Phillips ( a former champion, and a heckuva knifemaker; he also holds the current record for the most water bottles cut cleanly in one cut) is the current prez of BladeSports, and he is very interested in getting more knifemakers and cutters involved.

Got a chance to multi-quote it seems....

Kind thoughts and good vibes are free... but magic costs extra.

Magic... Jimping... All these extra fees are killing me

:D
WW smoke for the wife!
.

I normally smoke BECAUSE of the wife :p
Congratulations....on having more "discretionary" income now. That shop should start coming along nicely ;).

Im hoping so.... Got a few more things to get before i add more to the WANT list :D
Congrats! Buy any more tools yet?

Not quite.... Im wanting a tall stool, around 30" seat hight, a table router, and a mini fridge before long though!!
I'm just gonna leave this right here.

Much want! My 4 would be happy in that!!
Hope I'm not missing anyone... if I am, please don't take it personally.

There's no telling what happened when the doors closed at that interview :D

I'll tell ya a little secret, just between us... the knife cuts exactly the same without either jimping nor magic. Save your money, dude.

This is HERESY!!! I will NOT save my money, if there are claims of magic steel! How DARE you question my faith in things that can't be seen or scientifically proven! You, you.....stop making the world so damn rational. It's hard enough to make sense of even if you believe in magic and don't think about things too much.
