Are you the type who...

I love Max Archer's addition of "Accumulating". I think it fits me to a T.
I've always had a pocket knife since I was 8. I've broken or lost most, but still have a few that have survived. I have a few heirloom knives, several cheap knives I've bought, a handful of Case Tiny Toothpicks, a handful of Spydercos I've picked up to carry over the past few years, and some random fixed blades along the way.
I'd estimate I have about 40 knives around here somewhere. With half of them being sub $25, 10 being sub $100 and nothing purchased over $200 yet.

I was about quantity before... but now I am trying to do quality. If a knife isn't perfect for me I will sell it. I don't want to have more than a dozen though. I am currently at 8.

I think that's a great way to go about purchasing and owning knives. And I also think a dozen or so is a good amount.

Collector who is done with collecting, meaning I am not adding any more to the pile. I have somewhere between 100 and 150 pocket knives. Maybe 10 to 20 of those get regular use.

Back in the 80's I had a collection of several hundred Case knives. In the early 2000's I accumulated a couple dozen Microtechs. I also had a few Benchmades, a bunch of odd but interesting other knives and my users.

Other than the users they're all gone now. Somewhere along the line I ceased being interested in keeping knives that I wouldn't use or owning them just because they were super cool 'things'. Now I'm down to maybe two dozen knives and I'd carry and use any of them. I don't buy a lot of blades any more because it had just become a treadmill of pissing money away. I mean, yeah, you get that cool new knife 'high' but relatively few were getting actual use, and my 'tool' knives will definitely last me the rest of my days.

I rotate knives daily. I probably buy 3-6 per week. I have over 100 Victorinox/Wenger knives. The rest are whatever looks interesting. I plan to sell several but I'll continue buying as well.

I have a lot of knives. The next milestone will be to reach 500 count. I'd have more if I hadn't purged a bunch of my cheaper knives a while ago. They range in price from $7 to $700, although my taste has trended more expensive over the last few years. The collection growth has slowed recently as I'd rather have one $500 knife than ten $50 knives. I dont buy knives as an investment, just as something that I really enjoy. With only a couple of exceptions, they're all available to be carried if I decide to.

I have technically ~90 knives, but also kind of ~30 and more of late around ~10. My tastes have refined over the years, so my earlier collection is larger, cheaper, and doesn't really get used anymore. Then I went through a BM phase. And then I graduated to the high end--the 10 and counting. I am now of the mindset that I'd rather have a few AWESOME knives that I love carrying, rather than a million cheaper knives that I personally just can't appreciate. Lionsteel, ZT, Reate, got my first Kizer the other day, holy hell am I impressed. I wanna grab their upcoming Darrel Ralph collab--a properly made Gunhammer, yes please!! And I desperately want to get a CKF Muscle, but I am anticipating them going out of stock before my funds recuperate

Had a large collection before, but now I only buy/keep knives that are special to me.

Same goes for my watches.

As others have said, quality over quantity.

I collect and accumulate. I have a small collection of Vic/Wenger Soldier knives that I don't use and a bunch of bayonets that will never get used. So, I guess I am a collector of military knives. But, I have accumulated a bunch of stuff in my search for a better knife. I don't really know how many knives I own and not sure I want to know. My guess is at least 30 (not counting bayonets and such) and maybe even 50 or 60. Could be even more.

I have to admire people who have small, user friendly, collections. Gator Medic's collection is probably my favorite example. Practical and very well thought out.

I'm a bit of a minimalist if I like a knife it stays if I find another that does the same job better and I like it more, well, out with the old in with the new. You need a few for different purposes but collections are not for me.

I have about 25 custom folders, 5-10 production folders, and 8-10 fixed blades, mostly all custom fixed blades. I am 5 knives away from my "perfect edc assortment", then I am done buying knives. Or so I tell myself...

Fixed blades is where I'm weak. How many times have I said this is the last one. Then something new shows up.

I just started collecting January of last year. I now have 12 spydies, 4 kershaws, 1 crkt, and 1 sog. Only the spydies get carried, the others are in a shoebox collecting dust lol

I accumulate users. Nothing stays in a safe or case, rather, they all live in tool boxes, glove compartments, backpacks, my front pocket, or wherever.

I'd estimate the count somewhere between 10 and 100. It'd take me a month to dig through everything to get a final count. But, there's always a knife within reach when I need one - they're kinda like screwdrivers that way. :p

I'm more of an "accumulator" than a "collector."

In my mind, a collector has a particular theme or focus and their goal is completing a collection - owning every Delica variant or things like that. I buy knives pretty frequently and don't intend to stop, but I buy whatever strikes my fancy and it's all intended for use.

I'd say I'm in the "searching for the perfect EDC" camp too, but honestly I've already found several great EDC options that do everything I could ask, I just keep buying more because I get bored and I have fun trying out new knives.

Ok, don't take this as piling on or beating a dead horse, but this totally describes me as well. You just managed to say it much better than I could!

I tend to hold on to knives forever. Like someone else said, someday they'll pass on to my kids. If I was lucky enough to have a knife that my grandfather carried, I think it would be indescribably cool! I want my grandkids to experience that.

My accumulation enlarged by about a dozen knives last year. It'll slow down this year.
