Are you the type who...

I've been through the "buy everything you like" stage, then the "revolving door" stage, then the "thinning the herd" stage. I've got more knives than I need and I try to resist buying everything that catches my eye, but there are a few that I have in mind that I want so I will buy more occasionally.

I've slowed down to buying 2-3 per year. I can't use all the ones I have so I don't buy a new one unless it really appeals to me.

Anymore i have around 10-15 knives at a time. Going back and buying ones i wish i didnt get rid of right now, and going to try a few new ones out. 3 fixed blades and about a dozen folders tend to be my formula the past 5 years or so.

I have two of those long flat Walmart plastic tubs, that are heavy to lift. And a separate tub full of 7-8 axes, some really nice ones, and around 6-7 hawks and hatchets. I never intended on collecting anything. I just like diversity and a fresh tool/toy. I just got another machete and a Rat 1 in D-2 a day or two ago. Nothing fancy, but fresh.

I'm down to these a couple more to get maybe but that's about it.

I used to buy two of everything that I liked, one to carry and one to keep "in case I lost the carry one". Then I got on a carbon fiber kick, then a titanium frame lock kick, then a newer super steel kick, to go along with my addiction to auto's so I ended up with quite a few more than I realized after going through my closet during some off time during the Holidays so I have been culling the herd.

I now have about 40 quality folders and auto's, the lowest one is a S30V blem Blur (the one that got me back into knives), and then most are $150-$240 range with a few smaller fixed blades mixed in (got on a TOPS kick, too, that I have now mostly liquidated). I am an accountant so I have a spreadsheet with my cost in each knife and it is over $10k so I am still selling when I can find the right buyer. I typically to a sell to a specific distributor at gun shows who pays me realistic prices or to people that I know.

I now only buy LNIB used at a fair price and try to abstain whenever possible, i.e. the nice lot including the Ritter Grip with Wilkins folder for sale right now on the exchange. I really like the Grip but know that I will never carry it.

My most expensive right now are a couple of MT QD Scarabs, Strider SMF's, and a Strider SJ75 that I just got that I had to buy. I am in the process of moving the SMF's and maybe the Scarab that I do not carry.

Me I'am simple... I am a HOARDER of guns, knifes , packs , motorcycles....A $$$$$ "tailspin" has 'gutted' a lot of things. ( Don't know why???). Have app. 20 knifes left including my " first" which I got with a few bucks and the box ends (Proof of purchase) on several models. An old birch handled Mora. My favorites do change but for fixed blades my 'go to' will always be Randall. I have Bench made autos I love & Microtech OTF are great...I LOVE the Buck chipped flint series. Most expensive folder I have is a custom Pat Crawford ($700) I enjoy most any knife but am having my doubts about Karambits thanks to an unfortunate incident involving fingers..ENJOY & REMEMBER "DON'T VOTE IT ONLY ENCOURAGES THEM"........ ( Only kidding)

You know what this screams? This man has STYLE, well said!

Well I've have a number of collections so I've been there before. The last large collection I had included 50+ guns. I went through it and ended up selling most, I have about 10+ guns and I'm comfortable with that.

Now comes knives my gut feeling is I'll have 15 give or take but that will do it I think:)

Oh I just remembered I have a knife that I purchased when I was about 6 yrs. old from Army surplus that's many many decades old. I going have to go find it.

This noob just said Stop, Breath. Guess I'm a casual collector, nowhere as dedicated as a lot of collectors here. Most of these get carried, and only one, a Northfield 92 Talon, has S-Q status (for now).

I prefer to have a few instead of a large collection. Currently have 5 folders and 2 fixed. I will be selling one of those folders as soon as I change jobs. Total of six knives seems to be a good setup for me. I could technically get by with only two, but I like to have a couple spares tailored for specific tasks even if they aren't EDC.

I have to admire people who have small, user friendly, collections. Gator Medic's collection is probably my favorite example. Practical and very well thought out.

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words :)
