No activity on the site and phone message box is full. Where's Julie, anybody know??

Pete

I heard she (Julie) is moving to Alaska to live with a knifemaker she met.

Arizona Custom Knives was where I bought my first custom knife back when Jay owned it. He was very competent and informative.
However, Julie is a very sweet person and as some folks claim, "she's such a cutie!";) ;)

WTF??

That seems like a really wierd thing to do--no mention of it on the web site or anything! Of course, maybe there is something in the South Bay water that is making you hallucinate!

Matt (in Torrance).

Well alright then, let's here it for the local contingent. :)

Years ago, when the exchange rate was more favorable, I bought quite a few knives from Jay and Karen and they were great to do buisiness with. I have never done business with the new owner but she seems to be quite excited about her new business by what one can see in the site.

I placed my first order with them 2 weeks ago. So far no knife, no response to email and can't reach them via phone!

First and last order I will ever place with them - better believe this order will be cancelled whenever she decides to answer her emails. I can't stand flakey people.

Congrads on falling in love Julie if that is your excuse:rolleyes:

I didn't wish to start any negative comments here. I like Julie, enjoy dealing with her and thought that someone here would know how to reach her. Also, a little worried, wanted to make sure she isn't sick or anything like that. Let's not write her off as "flaky", there could very well be a good reason that she's unavailable.

Julie is as honest a dealer as you'll find. She's her own person, that's for sure, but has a true concern for the customer and makes an effort to give the customer value for their money. Some other internet dealers don't. By saying that, I'm mean they don't give a damn about you, as a customer and they'd be willing to sell you junk for big $$, if they could. I'm all for people making money, as long as they're honest and feel the customer will be happy in the end. I've bought knives from Julie and have been able to trade some back, for no reason other than that they didn't "turn me on" like I thought they would. Straight across trade deals, not deals where the seller makes their money twice.

Hopefully, we'll hear from Julie soon, SimonP will enjoy a nice deal with her, and her business will thrive. That's what I'd like to see.

Pete

I used to do a lot of business with Jay and Karen and they were top-drawer all the way -- buying, selling, or trading, they could not have been more responsive or fair. I've tried to do business with Julie and have bought a few things but I don't see how you can run a business this way. I think it's been about a month since she posted new stuff and sometimes she doesn't answer my emails or it takes weeks. I hope she turns it around.

It appears to me that Julie has abandoned her business completely.

If rumors about her move to Alaska are true, or anywhere else for that matter, it would have been helpful to her future as a business owner to leave info at her web site for her loyal customer base. Maybe in her mind it's no one's business.

No need to speculate. We'll find out what happened to her soon enough, I suppose.

I have dealt with her a couple of times over the phone. She was pleasant enough but appeared to be quite disorganized with respect to her inventory and the location of certain items.

Hopefully, all those blonde jokes aren't true.:D

She's new at this knife stuff so it seems only fair to me to cut her some slack while she is in this learning curve unless it turns out that she is a flake!

I have to agree, she appears to have just dissapeared - still no email responses & her voicemail is still full:mad: I can't get a hold of her to cancel the damn order so I can place it elsewhere.

If I had placed an order with her and she left me hanging like she's doing to you I would just cancel the credit card number I used by calling my credit card company and having them re-issue me another card with a new number, assuming she hasn't charged your card yet.

Especially if I wanted to get another knife somewhere else. That way she won't be able to charge your card and, if she has any business sense (and that point seems moot), won't send you the knife.

That is kind of drastic. I mean cancelling a credit card and getting a new one is somewhat of a hassle, especially if you have re-occurring charges automatically charged to it on a monthly basis. If for one second I thought she was a thief or my CC was missing of course I would cancel it without hesitation but in this case if she doesn't respond by Monday I will simply buy the knife elsewhere and if she ever tries to charge / ship the knife I will refuse it.

Recurring charges did not occur to me when I suggested this! If you have them on your card, I agree with you 100%.

Other than that, with the kind of money I'm talking about for a custom knife, I don't think it's drastic at all. I wouldn't want her to end up charging my card and sending me the knife I no longer want from her. Especially if I happened to order a different knife, in place of that one, from someone else.

I've had to cancel my card before (which had nothing to with Julie or knife collecting) and I received a new one in less than a week. It was extremely easy. I didn't have recurring charges though!

I have no reason whatsoever to believe Julie is dishonest at all.
In fact, from what I've heard she is quite fair in her professional dealings with people, once you get past some apparent flightiness. However, if I ordered, for example, a $1200 knife from her and hadn't heard from her for weeks, or even a few days , I'd be pretty p.o.'d and would want to cancel my order as soon as I could, as you do.

To me, ordering a knife and waiting for it to arrive is 75% of the excitement of knife collecting. When a seller ruins this exciting part of knife collecting for a customer that's a real a Bozo no-no!

Jay and Karen knew what they were doing and were great to do business with. Julie definitely changed the make-up of AZCK, for the worse I'm afraid. The selection is much more limited, the service was subpar, and I could not STAND those silly freaking letters she was posting on her site. Very unprofessional business behavior, all the way around. I hope she sells the business to someone who can bring it back to its former luster.

This is kind of turning into a GB&U.

I can say that in my discussions over the phone with her, she was indeed pleasant and did some follow-up research for me to track down a knife that was sold (before I wanted it) and worked to make an offer for me to buy it from the original buyer. Great stuff.

OTOH, I think she had a lot to learn, maybe too much.

My first order from her, a $400 folder came in a box. The folder had been dumped in the box. There were no packing materials, no plastic or padding around the folder, no nuthin'. The folder (titanium, no overlay or scales) got to me in pretty scratched-up shape. She took it back, no problem, but I was a little flabbergasted to say the least.

With every day that passes I become more appalled at how long that site is languishing. Even in the event of an emergency I would think that the site would reflect that within a month.

I found Julie pleasant enough and the more good purveyors available the better I think -- but most of my dealings with her have been uneasy including her refusing to entertain a trade using a knife I got from AZCK towards another knife. It was never a problem with Jay and Karen -- it's her policy fine -- but the way it went down left me a little put off. She also snubbed me once at a show but that's another story.

The bottom line is that it's an internet business and if you don't update your site and answer your email you're dead. I hope she shows up soon with some new stuff!

I would think so. But again, maybe not. If she's in a hapless situation this could be normal.

It will be interesting to see how her business fairs if it turns out that she just up and moved without regard to her newly acquired internet knife business or her customers.

Sorry for jumping in with this, but I have now heard this mentioned several times since she took over AZK. (Although I have never purchased anything from them, I have only heard the highest praise for the previous owners, Jay and Karen.)

I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would want to acquire a business (and run it on a day to day basis) in which they have little or no experience? That would be like me opening an auto repair shop! ;) ;)
