Arizona Custom Knives ??

Julie:

Welcome back. Sorry for starting this thread in the first place. I was just trying to find out where you were, got a little worried about you. If I had known it would take this "spin", I would never had done it. Anyway, gald to hear you're okay, sorry to hear that you've been through a little turmoil. That's life, especially for someone as adventurous as yourself. Someone who is willing to take risks. I've done a lot of that, myself, in my life and have found no shortage of onlookers who are quick to critisize me when I land flat on my face and who could never possibly understand the spirit of the risk taker. You're a "modern day pioneer". Don't take this negative stuff here too seriously. Now that you've posted your response and we know you're okay and that AZCK is still running and that you want it to bounce back and thrive, you can count on people like myself, who understand all too well what it's like to slip and fall, to support you and your business. I originally posted that you're "as honest a dealer as a person can find" and clarified the statement as being a little strong. For further clarification, I like to hold back on my highest praise for someone until I've met them, hung out with them and have seen how they handle various situations. This is definitely one of those "situations" and you're handling it with grace and honor. You have my support as a customer and my apologies, as a friend.

BTW, I always enjoyed your personal posts on the site, I enjoy buying knives from and selling knives to women, ladies, the "other" sex. (For the "I don't mix knives and guns with women crowd", ever heard of Dellana or Julie Warenski or Audra Draper....??) Seems to me like women who get involved with this industry tend to rise to the top. Also, I've had more fun dealing with you than I ever did with Jay and Karen.

Julie,
Hadn't posted before in this thread before cause didn't know what to say - we have had a number of wonderful dealings, phone conversations and finally got to meet and talk knives with you at the Chesapeake Show - you are truly one of the "GOOD" people in the knife industry and it bothered me no end to see you maligned and misrepresented. I am so glad to hear that you are getting things worked out and know without a doubt you will come back better than ever - life can throw you some 'curve balls' and who hasn't made some mistakes but the indication of a person's character is how they overcome them and you have shown here you have that determination, courage and character. I wish you joy, happiness and success in both your business and personal life and looking forward to the time we can meet again (maybe you'll be able to make it up to Chesapeake again?).

Bill

Hello Julie, although we have never met, may I say good luck to you! I have been self employed since 1989 and it is impossible not to let personal troubles get in the way of your business when you are the business. I know from my own experience.

I left New York City in 1990 to take a breather from personal problems. I never went back. The problems resolved themselves. Remember: "This too shall pass"

Well, we were pleasantly surprised when Julie stopped by for a visit on Wednesday. She is doing great and she was on her way to see friends in Utah, then a possible stop at the Spirit of Steel show.

She practiced up a little for those PITA customers! :D I just love the clash of the peace sign and the select fire M-4, the Raven Combat knife and camo. Quite the statment! :D

Good luck Julie, it was great to have you stop and visit! :)

Julie,

I've tried several times to get in touch with you by email without any response. I thought if I tried here, I might have better luck. Please contact me about my consignments. According to my records, you still have seven of my knives. (2) by W.R. Hurt, (3) by Bob Terzuola, (1)by Rod Chappel, and (1) by J.D. Clay.

Certainly combined they're worth more than the $45.00 you took the time to correct for the other fellow. :(

Julie,

Still haven't heard anything from you despite constant emails, and posting here in the forums.

Because of the time that has passed, I'm very regretful to have sent you knives from my collection to be sold on consignment. Months ago when I did get ahold of you, and found out the problems you were having, I asked that any unsold knives of mine be returned.

As of 10/15/03, Julie has righted this situation with me, and I'm pleased! :)

OK, I know what it's like to have peaks and valleys in your life (FWIW, the past year was one of the WORST years of MY life - but that's irrelevant). I have run several VERY successful businesses and so I would still like someone to answer my original question: why would someone buy a business about which they know little or nothing? (Maybe I don't know enough about the situation: does Julie know lots about knives and not enough about running a business? Or does she know only a little bit about knives and little or nothing about running a business? The first would be just a whammy, but the second would be a double-whammy!)

I'm really interested in the answer. (Because to me it would explain a lot about this situation and this thread.)

Thank you.

I am watching this thread, and if it gets into too much roasting of the subject,I will move to GB@U. Be nice.
Randy

Hi Cockroach,

Instead of posting this here and asking for "speculation".

You should just call or email Julie. Im sure when she has a free minute or two she would be happy to tell you.

Geez, I didn't mean to "insult" _anyone_ with my "speculation", Les! My question was triggered by something another poster mentioned early in this thread. I get paid to assist people in situations like that and I was going to offer my assistance to Julie at no charge.

It wasn't meant to be derogatory in any way.

I hereby withdraw the question.

Hi Cockroach,

I didn't think you were being insulting.

I just thought instead of asking others who don't really know what's going on. You should just go right to the source.

Im sure she would welcome any help that experienced people such as yourself would be willing to offer.

Hey Les, that's a good idea! Would you happen to have a phone number, or email address of her's that's working?!

Hi Erik,

I saw here at the Spirit Of Steel Show. She said she was moving back to Florida.

She is now a registered user on BF. You should check there for a email address. If none is found, try sending her a Private Message.

Thanks Les, and I've just tried the email address Julie lists here at BF. So we'll see what happens. BTW, her PM dosen't work.

Well, three days have gone by, and despite Les' advice, still no answer from Julie.

I've tried emailing her at the address she gives here at BladeForums, and the one she has on her homepage.

All I want is to be paid for the knives of mine that have sold, and have the unsold knives returned. Is that so unreasonable?

Time for this one to move on to GB&U. I have no doubt in time that Julie and AZCK will be up and running.

This is unfortunate.
A business owner that continues to give this kind of impression to people is certainly in a bad situation and one that even the most proficient business person would have a hard time ever overcoming.
I do think it's important to try and give as much benefit of doubt as possible to someone, up to a reasonable level.
But, this may be one of the most glaring examples of self destructive business behavior I have ever encountered.:(

edited for spelling error.

Hi Guy's,

Here is my posting om my web site. I hope this makes things clearer. If you want and insist I can give many upon many of e-mails that debate the comments here if not null and void them. I am and have always been me!! A women. Not a snoby bussiness that pretends or that is financed by others. I sale knives! Knives that I belive in and my self.

Hi Everyone,
WoW!! I am back…

As everyone or most everyone knows, I made a mistake and took a very big adventure. Smile.

The mistake; well, was a mistake, but the adventure was great!!! Super Great!

I just realized that tonight as I started back to work… Work is such a great thing, for me… at least. LoL.

It has gotten me to refocus; not just for work, but what really matters to me; my children, my dog, knives (Smile), making a difference and living day to day.

Through much support from friend’s, family, makers, competitors, and customers I heard frequently “Our mistakes make us stronger. Hmmm… Right! I would say. My bicep doesn’t look any bigger; in fact it seems to droop a little.

During the process some have been understanding (Thank you!!!!!!!!) while others (my Apologies) have been impatience.

Hmm… Maybe I can explain it like this……. As I traveled across the country I experienced and met different people and participated in just a small part of their lives. I pumped gas at peoples homes and farms, got my to go food from joint kitchens of the motel and their homes, caroled many a Wal-Mart and Wendy’s, walked Sox’s( my Dog) into Antique stores and made many a child smile as they ran their tiny hands through his fur.

As I traveled through these small towns I was frustrated, to say the least. Can’t they be faster, why don’t they put a sign up that says?? Why in heck don’t they have Goya (a Cuban seasoning)?? My dog has the highest of manners!!!!! Can’t he stay the night? Is hustle a word that anyone around here can understand?

What I learned was that they were living life differently……….very differently. Was that ok? What I finally thought after those miles was a very big Gigantic Yes!!

And most of all was ,that I was being different. I bought this business to be that, particularly; to prove that, I could run a business with out cutting (should I make a joke here??) peoples throats and ripping my customers off, but by being friends with my competitors and just enjoying my life and the world of knives.

I am not your local Wal-Mar or Macy’s of knives. If you want that then you can go to well( Wal-Mart or Macy’s). Smile.

I am Arizona Custom Knives run by Julie Hyman.

I will always take care of you. My integrity and morals are sound and my love for knives is only exceeded by my love for the individuals in the knife community which have become my family.

I love them, am angry with them, and embrace them.

I am feeling stronger everyday!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By Gosh oh mighty, I am here. I have always been here. Just living life as Julie Hyman does. With integrity, honor, love of life, and a deep deep heart felt sincerity in everything I do and say.

Sincerely, and as always all the very best,
Julie
