ARK knife. I find the need for this disturbing

Salmon, frankly, that's an absolutely ignorant statement.
1) I mentioned the issue to Spyderco in early 2012, before the sexual assault problem was widely publicized;
2) Most of the dialog about sexual assault assumes the problem is caused by fellow service members;
3) I am aware of no other really good defensive neck knives by other companies in H1;
4) I approached Spyderco, asking for their help.

I don't find your comments to be just "playing devil's advocate", I find it to be hostile, ill-considered and confrontational, especially considering Spyderco's sterling reputation and my long experience of the ways they go above and beyond to help service members.

Aside from the other reasons, I'd buy this knife just for #3. I live in the deep South. At this time of year, with a neck knife under a shirt, I get rust on everything except H1.

I can't wait for this one. I don't find that raising awareness of this issue is disingenuous at all; after all, the OP seemed to have learned of this issue from the Byte. I am a big fan of the neck knife format in general, and working the 3rd world, love H1 too.

Well, I'm hoping to take one on my ocean kayaking trip the first week of June (my handmade one is 440C, rust resistant but not H1, and space will be at a premium).

You may want to think twice about having a pointed blade as a kayak knife. I don't kayak, but some who claim to have a lot of experience say it is not wise to have a pointed blade for a rescue knife in a kayak.

It's a kayak, not an inflatable nor SCUBA.

You don't want a sharp tip on a dive knife.

He may have meant to avoid poking oneself, like how the Emerson La Griffe comes in a non-pointy version, same as some curved rescue blades.

Personally I like having a pointy tip, but I suppose it all depends on what exactly the knife is intended for.
Since it's your trip, you propbably have a pretty good handle on what you need it for. :)

Besides, if a knife design of mine just came out, damn right I'd be carrying it! :D

La Griffe is plenty pointy. Drop it inside your zepplin or rubber boat and prepare for frowny face.

Apologies on the jack. I tend to ignore items that aren't sold any more since they're not available or in common use. Back on topic OK?
