ARRGH! BK5 is awsome but the sheath is pathetic, I'm mailing it back to Ethan!

FWIW: I can appreciate your post and opinion of the knife/sheath. Some people might jump on you for that alone.... I'm not one of them and I can appreciate honesty all day long. It's the part about mailing the sheath back to him that's not "Classy";) the reaction you've gotten would've been different if it looked like this:

I resisted buying one of these knives for a long while but I recently pulled the trigger and today it came in the mail.

My first thoughts,

- WOW, this things cuts like a @#$%^&*!
- size is really nice. It feels smaller than I was expecting.
- weight is also nice and it feels lighter than I expected.
- balance is pretty good.
- I bought this to use for camping but it also gives confidcence that I could defend against a mountain lion.
- makes you feel like a samurai when your holding it!
- handle is too skinny. The BK2 handle feels better because of the thicker tang. I ordered liners to remedy.
- all black knife looks boring. I ordered micarts scales to remedy.

- sheath is pathetic. Ethan seriously, you can include a better sheath. If I was buying a made in China POS knife I would expect a sheath like this.

Now I'm gonna have to contact Godspeed to get an awesome sheath for it. This way I'll get exactly what I want and this combination is gonna be unbeatable.:D

But I love the knife!

Eli, if you wasn't already promised to Doc, I'd marry you.

But alas, Doc has claimed you and put a dowery deposit down, so, I must forgo my love, and move along to find a greener pasture.

No, no, don't speak. Shhhh, it will be ok, Doc is a special man, and has many marvelous qualities.

:D

The OP should try Busse-Kin knives...you get a sheath made of cardboard and nobody complains !:D

you USED to be able to buy sheaths direct from Busse, and guess what they looked like?

Haha great sig. Knife and Tool is right. The sheath thing has been beaten to death. Having a cheap stock sheath some don't like is better than an expensive stock sheath some dont like. As others have said, you've already spent a good bit on aftermarket accessories. Whats another few bucks for a sheath?

there bussee goes, copying Becker things again :)

The oldest Becker I have is my 9, a Camillus model that still sports the stock sheath. Not because I think it's a great sheath, but just because until last April, I never wore it on my belt anyway, but it is also the one knife of mine (of any brand-name) that gets used the most. Last April it went on the belt for its first extended period when I was busy cleaning up after the tornadoes here in N. Bama. If I was going to continue to use it that way, I'd buy another sheath, but for its normal duty, being my main tool for the fireplace during the winter, sitting in the stock sheath for 6 to 9 months out of the year on the hearth is fine with me.

I have four other Beckers, three 2s and one LE-BK10. All but one still sport their stock sheaths. One 2 is attached to my wife's get-home-bag, one is buried in a geo-cache, bug-out location, which I'm thinking seriously of digging up and bringing home as my bug-out plans have morphed into it being way more likely that we'll be buggin'-in should the need arise, and the 10 sits in its original sheath and box doing nothing. I am still undecided about whether or not I will keep that knife, but if I ever make a decision to keep it, I'll order a custom sheath at that time.

The one Becker that I have that goes everywhere with me is my 3rd BK2. It is MOLLE'ed up to my get-home-bag, but if I go to the range, I put it on my belt. If I go for a hike in the woods, I strap it on. If I go camping (which has been happening less and less for various valid reasons), it's on my belt, but the Gurkha Kukri handles any heavy chores, like chopping mainly, and the 2 handles food prep, fuzz sticks, what have you. That 3rd 2 is the only one of my Beckers to have a custom sheath, because it's the only one that has any pressing need for it. I didn't complain to Ethan or Kabar, I just found the maker I wanted to use, and ordered it. And yes, it cost considerably more than the newest of my 3 BK2s, but so what? I have a complete system for my most-used knife in the outdoors. The sheath was just a component of that system. To complete the system the way I wanted it, it cost what it cost, and I got my money's worth.

Want another sheath for that 5? Buy one. Make it yours, instead of it just being another great knife in a cookie-cutter package. They're easy to find. This one's mine, find one that makes you feel good:
