FWIW, GT Leo Gaje's Pekiti-Tirsia Global Organization practices archery. I gather from reading their website that it's practiced for both physical and spiritural development.

I'd like to chime in here. I remember reading how in the Vietnam war the Montagnard tribesmen would take on the VC and NVA using crossbows and kicking their asses.

I think archery is a good skill to learn, same with knives, sticks, spears, and others. In ninjutsu, they still train with the sword, bow and arrow, and other
"archaic" weapons. Like Steve Lamade pointed out about the art he studies,
it's about building attributes.

Another thing, it isn't the weapon that matters, it's how you use it. Bottom line, you could have an M-60 in your hands, but if the guy with the bow and arrow shoots you in the throat before you fire, you're just as dead.

I'm talking about real fighting in the streets.Even if any of you are able to be in the military, I'm almost certain, our military is never going to train you in archery or have the bow and arrow be a standard isue.I'm sorry, but ninjutsu is such an outdated art.How many ninjas do you see running around?LOL. Spears?????? Come on!
You could still train those attributes by practicing arts that are more practical.Why waste your time doing things you are never going to use?Why not train in something that offers both attribute training and at the same time,know that you can use it for real.
Hey edge fighter, having heard a word from you.Obviously you have nothing else "intelligent" to say. I'm glad I was able to educate you on these issues and open your mind to real and effective fighting.Judging by the way you have been thinking, I think it's best that you leave your bitch ass at home instead of believing that you could really kick my butt.It's never going to happen.Stick with your fantasy martial arts momma's boy!!!!

I wonder if you could tell me what FMA you're currently practicing? Who is your teacher? Also, your profile states that you are are a CEO. Of what company? BTW, "Entreprenuer" (on your profile) is spelled "Entrepreneur."

Edgefighter is probably never going to get the chance to get schooled by you, FilAm2007, because your real name and address will never appear on this forum. I suggest that you cut down on the steroids and Play Station games and start thinking about whether you want to be taken seriously.

This is coming from a non FMA guy, BUT I have to say that doing this might actually turn out to be a good time, regardless of how useful it is. Most archery ranges froun on doing shots while moving, using various types of cover, and various stances.

Who hasn't gotten with a bunch of buddies, argued if recurve or compound is better, and then gotten into a heat of bragging rights shots or attempting to split eachothers arrows.

I say more power to them, and I wish that there were guys in my area that are up for doing something like this as well.

If you haven't noticed, I have been serious about this subject matter since I first joined this forum.The system that I practice is my family's system that has been passed on from my great grandfather to my grandfather and now to me.We call our system mandarigma combatan.Our system was used by my relatives during World War II against the Japanese occupation and is still effective today.We do not teach you how to use a bow and arrow or any of that useless stuff.Nor do we teach you how to use a sling shot.Although that gives me an idea???? As for what I do for a living, what does that have anything to do with this thread? Steve, don't you have some samurai you have to take on???LOL. Thanks for catching me on my spelling error.I have a small case of dyslexia. Oh, did I spell that right Steve?????LOL.Oh, BTW Steve, you and edge fighter are welcome to join my school anytime.I'm always looking for people to oil my kamagong sticks. : )

Something about getting drunk and finding the closest animal to have sex with. But hey, to each their own. I'm not passing on judgement on people's sexual preferences. Just stay the fuck away from me.

Combat archery doesn't kill people, I kill people. It's the person pulling the trigger or the arrow in this case that's a threat. See, regardless of what tool we use to maim, decapitate or kill another human being, ultimately it's our hand, our decision to commit this act.

And if you want to go to the woods and run around playing tag with bow and arrows that's your problem, no matter how absurd it may look (check out the video).

As for sides, I'm all for passing down an art form from generation to generation. I just think it's funny how those guys are running around the woods. I'm sure I'd laugh at watching you go to town with some domesticated animal too, passing it on a family art. That still gets me, "mandrigma combatan"... LOL!! What a crock.

On a more serious note, archery is a vehicle to express one's combative persona. Like guns and other weaponry, they themselves hold no real threat. It's the user who's trained to use the weapon that's the threat. Same goes for any defense against a weapon. Attack the person, not the tool. But, in the case of FilAm, run away when he gets medieval on the ass of some domesticated animal.:barf:
