Any idea on how to delete attachments in MOD closed threads? Specifically the original Carothers for sale thread.
We discussed closed threads earlier. Speaking for myself, I mentioned that I did not see a way to batch delete attachments. (I looked...but that doesn't mean I couldn't have missed something.)

Spark Spark would probably know much more about whether the software could accommodate such.

We should set up our own photo hosting site and direct members there. It doesn’t have to be directly integrated with the forums, but it does need to be stable. The value of this site come from the rich amount of information that we have all contributed. Destroying thousands of threads every time a photo hosting service decides to call it quits makes us too dependent on third parties and favorable winds.

N2s

If that were a simple and affordable solution, I don’t think we’d be in this position.

Don’t fool yourself. It’s not a matter of IF Imgur goes all Photobucket, it is WHEN… It could be a year from now, 5 years from now, or Monday.

Probably so, nothing lasts forever, but a hard limit of how many photos you can host here, and constantly deleting content in order to post more, is just a slow and steady version of what happened with photobucket. I’m not saying another third party hosting site is a perfect solution, far from it, but the currently available alternative isn’t any better.

I think the symbiotic relationship between user content and the popularity of the forum keeps getting pushed aside in this discussion. Sure, we wouldn't all be here without Bladeforums...but Bladeforums would not be the thriving community/historical archive that it is without the members who have spent decades uploading the content that draws members here in search of that information.

Now those contributing members are potentially going to be asked to pay more if they wish to continue contributing?
My dude, I'm sorry that this is personally affecting you like this but you, personally, were one of the top 5 people who was overloading the storage

You are an edge case. I haven't told everyone to immediately delete their attachments. I haven't told you to delete your attachments.

The Knifemaker quota for attachments is already 750mb

You are at over 3 gigabytes. DocJekl DocJekl David Mary David Mary Dcdavis Dcdavis are the only people who have more images on the server.

I already took responsibility for the failure to have quotas set up correctly. They are set up correctly now.

I appreciate the historic & community archive concerns, thus I haven't deleted a single image for people over the quota.

If you want increased quota space, you will probably have to pay more for it - the increased disk storage isn't free to me either.

For those inconvenienced by deleting images, I'm investigating add ons for batch deleting, but I'd rather not implement them if I can just get storage increased instead with new servers when / if we migrate. Again, this is why I'm specifically not telling people to delete images at this time.

Spark Spark , have you considered charging everyone some level of fee just to use this site? Perhaps you should consider so the cost on the people like you mentioned above who contribute tremendously to this community aren’t disproportionately burdened compared to the benefit and traffic they bring here. Spreading the cost of whatever larger server or solution you’re considering would certainly be eased if anyone looking for content has to be a member at some financial level whatever that is. Just a sincere constructive suggestion.

I don't "upload" much here (honestly have not looked at my allowance/use). I have for probably the past decade or more used paid or free hosting services online PLUS keeping backup copies of all my images. Bladeforums or any other forum/service should not be the only location an image you value is held. When those hosting platforms go boobs up it is disappointing in the extreme but that is the way of the internet. Likewise I do not think it fair (or even smart) that BF should be the repository for important images. If something happened tomorrow and Spark Spark simply said "nope can't be bothered with the headache anymore" or similar then everything is lost anyway.

Charging everyone an access fee for the site would kill it faster than any other measure.
That’s probably true I guess. I assumed $5 or something reasonable but considering most other forums I assume are not charging you’re spot on.

I would think most people are posting pics from their own storage whether that’s on a drive or in the cloud but you make an excellent point.

I'm so sorry Spark. Like I've been saying from the start though, I'd be be happy to pay you for more storage 🤗 That's what I get for adding 400+ knives last year and posting pics with 3-4 different views of all of them!

NBD man, all the new server quotes factor in storage baselines from where we are right now and room for further expansion.

Hi Spark Spark I also never really considered the storage impact of my prolific pic uploading and it just got to be a habit that I didn't think much of.

But David, remember it's Your posts, service, and involvement and people like you, which is what makes Bladeforums worth coming to each day!!!

A lot of my pictures have been posted numerous times answering questions and such. Is there a way moving forward to link from my attachment file here to reuse the pictures without using more storage?

eveled eveled I just went to "attachments" in my profile, and copied the link address to this one, the very oldest one on my profile, to post here:

So yes. Just like that.

EDIT TO ADD:

Based on the subsequent discussions, I have tried another method. I went to my Attachments/Images list, and scrolled to the bottom of the last page again where this image from 2019 is listed. This time, instead of clicking on the image and copying its address from here, I clicked on "View Post", and then right clicked on the image in the original post and selected "copy link address.

In the first attempt, using the former method, the link code is as follows:

Code:
https://www.bladeforums.com/account/th-attachment-manager/1201055/view

And by grabbing the image address from the original post, it is as follows:

Code:
https://www.bladeforums.com/attachments/modded-shaman-jpg.1201055/
