Spark Spark - For those of us who are inclined to delete just because 10 year old images of sale knives, GAW or trade knives are really not useful - can we get some help with deleting the images from CLOSED THREADS? I have at least 50 - likely twice as many - that I am locked out of the option to delete. Thank you.
I'll have to look into what it takes to do that. If you have a platinum membership and you've closed sale threads, you should be able to reopen them and delete.

Just top be clear - No issues deleting from my closed threads even with a gold membership - the issue is with GAW and Pass It Along type threads in which photos or attachments were posted that are now closed by others.

Thanks.

Don't know what to tell you Bob. It shows up for me. Did it only show as "view" for anyone else? Anyone know why?

Here is something else odd; I tried looking at your post while not logged in, and the image only appears as "view" in text. But my previously attached image in this thread, and the one WValtakis WValtakis linked to in the next post, both work.

Images linked from other sites all worked fine too.

Right. This is the "I support this site with my pictures" thread.

I agree with preserving the historical stuff...but most of us fall pretty squarely in the the casual, making conversation stuff.
The hard limit on attachments and storage is a problem because, over time, we'll all hit that limit. Some will do it in 6 months, some will take 6 years. I've been a gold member since 2014 - sometimes I let it lapse because I was not participating; but I've always renewed when I came back. I knew when I started attaching images that there was a limitation; though I didn't know that I could pay for multiple years before reaching that limit, then get cut off. I figured that when the time came, I would delete some of my older images & continue without much issue. I hadn't considered that 10% of my allotment would be taken up by images I can't delete.
I joined in 2006 and I've maintained a Platinum membership for most of the years since. I have zero attachments. There are photo hosting sites out there, including the dreaded Photobucket that I've been using for many years.

It is ironic that although knives are about as low tech as you can get, you must have at least a little bit of high tech skill to operate on Blade Forums. (If we cannot post photos directly.) I have no interest in third party photograph hosting sites. It seems like they are either charging a fee or acting as social media sites. So I have been deleting attachments in order to be able to participate in the Forum again at some point. It is a tedious process. I found it interesting that with 950 attachments remaining, I am below 200 MB. I suppose that means that having 200 MB is no real benefit, because you will apparently hit 500 attachments long before you use up the 200 MB.

It sure would have been nice to have been given an opportunity to mass delete our attachments before we were shut down. I hope that feature is added before I hit the limit again. There is also the problem of not being able to delete photos from closed threads that needs to be fixed. Unless we are afforded these options in the future, posting photographs will only be viable for those who are willing to switch to third party hosting. I am going to cut back on my posts.

EDIT, it looks like I have over 100 attachments locked in closed threads. These are primarily old Forum Knife threads and Jack Black’s Knife of the year thread. We really need to be able to delete these if we can Spark Spark .

The Search Engine would be a great place to free up computer capacity. It really does not work well and could be eliminated entirely. A Google search will usually bring me to the right place in Blade Forums.

The search engine works just fine for me. The only thing I don't like about it is the auto populated search suggestions that come up as soon as any word is partially typed. But it finds what I make it find.

So, are we still "holding tight", or has that been abandoned and external photo hosting companies to be used?
I'm not on Any social media sites and plan to keep it that way, just not clear on what's happening with the previous method here in BF.

I deleted 2 picts. from my attachments, to see if I then would be able to upload a new pict...no luck.
Haven't deleted anything else since.

Hi guys...I have try to delete about 20 pics from the past if I can upload and show a new knives...still cant post new pics :-(

Is there any easy and fast solution of the problem? Don´t want to upload pics anywhere else and that link to them...too much time consuming for me.

Paying for my knifemakers membership for a lot of years here and this issue really sucks :-( :-(

Thank you for any help!!

Hey wajgy wajgy look on the bottom right of your ATTACHMENTS page. These number will need to comply before you can post new images. Deleting 20 or 30 might not even be close to getting you there. The far right number of each is the target number you need to be below before being able to add more.

As has been said above Spark - last week - was telling us to not delete until he sorts things out - but in the meanwhile you will need to use an outside host if you must attach more photos. We are loosing lots of history with these mass deletes.
