August 2021 BOTM, 120 in D2, ironwood and brass

In answer to a previous question, no, I did not buy one after seeing the pictures here. I missed the Ironwood 119 (out of cell coverage). When the Ironwood 120 email hit I bought one (only) right away. I LOVE the 120 size so it was no question. And upon arrival I am quite pleased with the one I received. Picture on Sunday.

typically the Buck picture is usually pretty nice example. not always. sometimes the real deals are better than the marketing picture.

anyways that would inspire more buying upfront. which we saw happen with this one. as for ones left, the clean out might be inspired by posts showing whats coming out....but the bulk where gone before anyone got one. not sure they are even gone yet. also everyone isn't on a phone and aware it came out. could take a day or so before the movement really begins.

the price point and amount and older fans Buck seems to have not on the phone every minute of the day i expect where the reasons for the time frame.

I did not buy the September 2019 BOTM 110 because I was not inspired by Buck's picture. Regretted it after seeing everyone else's pictures. I made sure to pick up the matching 112 the following January.

With how long this is sticking around in stock, it makes it more and more difficult to resist! haha

Only 9 left...

the old under promise over deliver tactic. works everytime.😆

A General is a commander of an army, in this case an army of 100 series fixed blades. That's my guess. It feels like one. I'm still impressed with the size of this knife. And with Brass, the weight. This one is like a two star General.
A like what you are saying, but I think this version is a 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ General

Ironwood handle, no fuller gives a nice new freash look to the knife, great feel and well balanced in hand (I like big knives so this knife seems average size to me. Average = 10" to 12". I also collect katanas and wakizashi to put the size into perspective), plus there is always the collector aspect/desirability of a 'limited' edition BOTM. And the upgraded sheath.

Hi folks, this is my first post, and I'm not sure if it's the right place to ask this question: why is the Buck 120 called General? Does the name allude to a general purpose knife?
Thank you very much for your reply.
mdm, from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I called Buck today, I asked "why the 120 General is called the General ?"

Placed on a brief hold to find the answer . . .

The answer given . . . .

"The 120 General is high ranking among long fixed blade knives", that is why it is called "General".

EDIT:

Tecate and GPyro MarcelodiMarco

Well, it seems there is no definitive answer to this question. I also, at the time of making the phone call to Buck, emailed history at buckknives;

Response from Tony Wagner, Sales Operations Coordinator, copied below:

"Greetings,
There wasn’t anything that I could find in the archives documenting “why” the 120 was named the General. Theories have been made that it was given the name as it was intended to be a general use knife. Others are that it was named for the military rank as it could also be used as a fighting knife." [I put a bold on Theories]

Mine arrived yesterday on my birthday (now a ripe old age of 68), it could not have worked out any better, in that it also arrived without any quality issues (like what I've been harping about in another thread regarding my last couple of purchases). :)
