got some work to do now

Suns going down!
Like to see what you got when you get some hung.

Did you get the axe?

Yeah I got it. It is so sub standard I thought I would just let it be. Its not sharp, the hanging is incorrect, the amount of handle above the eye is crooked, the grain on the handle is poor, the handle is full of knots, etc etc. I'll stop now.

Hell I gave u a keen kutter boys axe and a couple hatchets and I got that in return?

I thought I did a good job on it. You said you'd sharpen it yourself. I wish you'd would have emailed me instead of trying to embarrass me on here.

There is no embarrassment other than the job you did on it. All I did was receive it, which as they say its better to pitch than catch and I know that now.

Maybe if you take more pics of sunsets and dragonflies that will help your axe hanging skills. The fact you sell axes for the price you do on your etsy sight is down right wrong.

Keep the keen kutter I learned my lesson.

I acted in good faith on the trade. Sorry you didn't like what I did. Emailed you to resolve it but instead you resort to personal attacks in a public forum. Weak.

Cooper hill and Operator I for one would appreciate it if you took your issue off line and edited your posts in this thread please. You are ruining one of the best threads on this site.

I got another vintage hatchet from the auction site. No other bidders I think due to the seller lousy pictures so a real nice price. Interesting long narrow profile and an old handmade hickory handle. The outside of the carpenter square is on the balance point of the head and aligns perfectly with the handle base.

I tried to capture the handle carving and head forging profile here. Probably early 20th century factory made but I've never seen another like it. Tomahawk influence in the design.

Some comparison photos of it next to a narrow bit Walters and True Temper tomahawk. The head is 6 inches with a 2 inch bit and 1 1/2" wide poll.

I'm liking it very much so I want to get some good leather on it.

went for a hike and spotted this small Douglas-fir snag the axe bit is pointing to.

noticed the base had a good chunk missing.

had a nice spring board pocket too.

did some underhand chopping on 12" of Balsam-fir, the head slid up a little bit at full power, i threw in another steel wedge and will use that for awhile.

Cool photos!

It's extremely dangerous to chop on an old snag like that. A rotten chunk can fall from above very easily. Best to let something like that fall on its own.

yeah i couldn't figure out why some one didn't finish falling it when they where logging here. Douglas-fir is really dangerous the sap wood rots first but can leave a sold layer of the live edge held on by nothing that fall off all the time. i snapped those pics as fast as i could and got out of there, i have all ready had to get 5 stitches from a Douglas-fir branch landing on my head the morning after a wind storm.

needs some bit restoration still but cleaned up TT Flint Edge CT.

Not mine but it belongs to a local logging crew. I just don't see too many of these marking axes.

Pegs;

Nice branding axe. The USFS still requires every log to be branded on both ends unless the contracting officer allows the timber purchaser to brand only one end. They do this to try and prevent export of National Forest logs to foreign countries, (mostly Japan or China), before the log has been processed in the US. They have to be cut into cants as a minimum before export. Companies that export logs aren't allowed to bid on National Forest timber sales. Timber purchasers are required to register the brands, so you rarely find two of the same. A lot of the brands are on hammers instead of axes. I have one I found around here somewhere. It's quite a bit different from the one in your photos. Will post some photos when I find it.

That's interesting. I have never seen something like that myself. For what ever reason they didn't finish the job is lost to time now.

That is cool, I've never seen anything similar locally.... really like that the poll is clearly hand made. Nice find, even if it's just snapping a picture.
