Axe, Tomahawk & Hatchet Photo Thread

So far I've only gotten to use the frontier hawk. And even then it was only once. I'm looking to broaden my hawk opportunities, but so far it's not panning out as much as I'd like.

Eh, I understand that. I am always asking myself, what are you gonna use it for? And so I don't have any. I am kinda interested in throwing them though.

Well there's nothing wrong with that, as it discourages wasting money. But sometimes when that route is taken, we wind up talking ourselves out of something we could've used when an unforeseen situation arises, and we find ourselves ill prepared to address it.

You're right .... I need.

So teeny and cute.

Needs a new handle though, this one's all funked up and twisted, surprised it left the factory!

A few of my humble collection

Pick up one of the lighter hawks from Cold Steel for throwing, I've been messing around throwing hawks since I was a kid going to Mountain Man Rendezvous gatherings and it is a lot of fun. I picked up the Rifleman's Hawk and it is too heavy, about the size of a boy's axe. The smaller hawks look perfect. Some of the other mass market offerings in that vein are't good throwers but the Cold Steel offerings look perfect.

So far today the mercury hasn't hit 100 so thought I'd spend a little quality time with my new toy from James Helm. While the blade did most of the work, it was the combat spike that split the wood in 2 halves. Thanks James.

Gransfors Mini. Three years of use and it's still among my favorites. Here it is getting its 6th coat of Danish oil over the course of two days. This insane heat (125*F in the sun) really helps it soak in quick.

Holy crap, that GB Mini sure is small, but beautiful! I bought a bundle of b-stock handles online some time ago, one of the handles looked exactly like that. The handle looked so small in my hand, I thought it was a joke, good to see there are some axes that could use a spare if needed!

It sure is! I love the feel of it, it's very unique. I really like using a leuku for a lot of my work, but this little hatchet does just as well, and it feels so cool!

Sorry for the poor quality pics, I'll have to take some better ones. I've been so busy playing around with this little guy I forgot to take many pictures. I should take a comparison shot of it next to my GB Double bit:D

*The Mini has a new mask, as seen in the post above*

Went for a hike today to take some pictures of my beloved Mini Hatchet. I did a little work with it as well, but I didn't get any pictures of that I'm afraid.
