My Buck froe chews up an Osage orange baton in just a few weeks. That spine has 90 degree corners of 5160. Is birch a hard enough wood for a decent baton? And for kindling my Cold Steel Axe Gang hatchet with shortened handle, removed the Chinese characters ‘cause I have no clue what they say, sanded to 400 grit with a coat of tung oil. And of course removed the blade coating and rounded the poll for batoning. The baton needs to be retired soon.
