Böker Plus Kwaiken Flipper Folder

Got it! Blade tip doesn't nip fingers and centered perfectly. Cosmetically blemish-free. All screws are great and no signs of stripped torx heads. Detent is great. So is lockup. No blade play.

Way to go, Boker QC!

Happy guy!

Nice capsuled review covering all the important items.

I'm jealous. Looking forward to mine tomorrow.

I keep flipping this thing as it's getting looser. You guys will be pleased.

RamZar--I'm in South Orange County--strange that I got mine first. It'll be worth the wait!

Just in case you guys would like some comparison pics to illustrate some differences between the folder and the flipper ...

Notice the differences in the blade?

Also the torx screw on the pivot is on the clip side on the flipper.

Look how much thicker the liners and blade are on the flipper:

Beefier parts with tighter tolerances crammed into a similar external size:

The liner on the lock side looks like it's touching the blade, but it's not.

Recessed (now skeletonized) clip on the flipper:

It's also heavier (obviously). The bearings feel a little smoother on the folder, but the lock bar might be a little tighter on this flipper. That, and IKBS lubing can be looked at when I mod this. Until then, I love this knife.

I noticed BladeHQ put up a video on the flipper.

Molle Ninja,

Excellent comparison pictures and explanations. I think the flipper may perhaps be a little thinner and the absence of the obtrusive disc thumb stud helps too.

Here's the BladeHQ review you mentioned:

I got mine in yesterday and here's a brief brain dump of my experience so far:

-Fit and finish is just as impeccable as my original version; perfect centering and lockup, no visual flaws. Way to go Boker!
-Blade tip issue is definitely fixed, which is good because the slight change in grind means this tip is very, very pointy
-Blade finish is a more polished stonewash, unlike the original blasted + stonewash
-It is extremely handle heavy, the balance on the knife is way off (to be expected obviously)
-Slightly less ergonomic than the original as there's no index finger groove anymore
-The flipper could use some jimping given its shape
-Not as smooth as the original yet, I was able to back the pivot off quite a bit with no centering/blade play issues, but the detent ball sounds pretty rough.

One last thing: am I nuts, or are the dimensions on the flipper not the same as the original? The blade seems thinner and shorter, but I don't have mine on hand to compare it to.

I thought about jimping, but where a little grip would be better might be the handles.

If you back the lock bar off and hold it away from the blade, the action is much smoother.

See my post about dimensions.

Once you release the lockbar tension, it's like there's no friction at all. The detent/lockbar strength is definitely what is causing it to be a little bit less smooth. My index finger slips off the flipper sometimes, which is exacerbated by the smooth shape of the flipper. But then again, it's a gentleman's knife so I guess it wasn't exactly intended to work 100% with wet hands or whatever.

The looks, flipper action plus fit and finish are GREAT! No issues with the blade tip cutting you.

The titanium flipper weighs 5.47 ounces versus just 4.53 ounces for my orange G10.

The orange G10 feels a little more secure in the hand plus the thumb stud acts like jimping. I little jimping on the flipper would've been nice. If your trigger finger is slick you can slip.

I actually like the slick surfaces of the titanium handles.

By the way, these are made in Taiwan!

just want to add my $0.02

The handles always feel kinda lil bit “sticky” I washed my hands a few times then dried them before I handle the flipper. But I can still feel the surface is somehow “sticker” then a boker albatros.
It might be because of the texture of the handle that is prone to retain moistures? Other then that, I like everything else on this one. The other thing I noticed is due to the oil in the bearing, the inner part of handle is easier to attract light dusts. No biggies though. mine is also with early ser # 0004 a plus :D

Only wish they will make a full stonewash handle version the same as the albatross. I feel the stonewashed handle feels smoother

Gonna ask a newbie question here, can I do without the outer handle, just go with the 2 inner handles?

Happy holidays

Mine arrived yesterday and I'm very impressed. Boker upped the quality on every part of this knife, reminds of spydercos cqi. The blade is centered, the grind is symmetric, lockup is solid. I could not find anything wrong with the one I got. the most noticeable change is the opening sound. It is now a lower tone compared to the non flipper kwaiken. I like it a lot more! The edge geometry also looks different tho I don't know how to describe it well.

Now I am wishing for a gen 2 of the non flipper kwaiken, made with all the quality improvements on the flipper version. :p

A question about molle ninjas photos: mine did not have any difference in blade length as shown in your photo. Is that an optical illusion?
