Back by Popular Demand... What folder do you guys carry?

Some of the prices are just ridiculous on there. The PM2 in m390 seems to be the one that always breaks that $300 mark every time.

Why would someone want a relatively thin blade in that caliber steel with a folder which is not meant to be a little tank like a CRK? (isn't it the Bohler's version of the Crucible's 20CV?) The S30V is plenty good for me and its use puts their prices where I'm comfortable with.

Oh I get that and I should have rephrased my rather rhetorical Q to mean as to why would someone want to pay $300 in a secondary market for those sprint runs?

You got me bud. I think they're appealing to people because it's the "in" thing. Maybe the bright blue handles are why people gravitate towards it.
The only sprint runs I've ever had were CTS 204p, S35vn, CTS-XHP or D2. They were all great slicers, but there's no way I used them hard enough to truly test the steel.

Was it GideonTactical (sp?) who had a video of him batoning on a PM2? I vaguely remember something!

You are correct. I may have confused the BHQ video with Gideon's, or perhaps both did it or to make it extra confusing, Gideon did it for BHQ??? :D

I would never pay $2XX for a Spyderco when a Sebenza is $3XX. I will pay the $100, well worth it. Junkyard has the same Sebenza in his pocket, daily EDC for 18 years. No one is carrying an 18 year old Spyderco that I know of.

I think people would pay $250+ on a pm2 sprint on the secondary market if you were collecting all the variants.

Now $350+ for a seb is not a collector's piece. It's a straight standard model in which many are made and found in the open market. Some CRK worth collecting would probably start $600+.

I can afford to edc a seb for 18 years, but I'd probably be bored as sh*t with it after a while. For that same cost I can get 4-5 run of the mill spydercos and have variety over that 18years. Variety is the spice of life, right?

Anyways, just another view point.

I just found it and it was Ben from Bladehq and the Late Boy Scout.

I'm still impressed with how well the PM2 worked out.

Wow 18 years?
There's no way I'd be able to stay interested in one knife for that long.

Yes, it is the spice of life. That's why I just sold 5 different Sebenza's and am buying a bunch of CPK knives!!

That's because you have never had a Sebenza. What are you gonna do, sell you Sebenza and carry a Opinel? No way! It works, and you become attached to it. Everytime you try to beat it, you fail and love it even more. The only way people get out, is to go up to customs. Ever try leaving your house without something you carry daily for a decade?!

I plan to be buried while still using my pelican case of EDC Sebbys.

Maybe I should be sent out on a ship that is set on fire like a Viking instead. Hmmm.

Oh, one more thing. If Guy does a folder, I will be all over. Same goes with Nathan & Lorien. I've asked them a couple times already. I'm no CRK Fanboy, I am anxiously awaiting it to be dethroned.

CPK, CRK what's the difference. Just a Q ;)

Woah, that is deep. I can tell you this, CPK fixed spank the CRK fixed all day, but we both know Nathan & Lorien are likely years away from a folder.

Guy's folder, if he is going to keep his level of perfection and attention to detail, well, maybe we will see one, but I'm not holding my breath!

Haha it's a never ending cycle! CRK's are just more expensive!
I can't leave the house without the 4.1 so I get what you're saying. I guess I'll have to peel open my wallet and wipe the dust off of my credit card and take the plunge soon. Maybe I'll order one on my dog's 1 year birthday so it'll be an important knife.

LOL!

TOPS which is a big arse Co as compared to both Guy and Nathan, has been "developing" a folder for the last 2 years and they have been supposedly field testing that fugly prototype which has been shown in at least 2 Blade Shows that I know of. And we're talking TOPS which makes goofy looking knives with even goofier names!

I won't holding my breath either on a S!K or CPK folder anytime soon!

Steel aside, because a full flat, thinly ground blade will cut better. The increased wear resistance of the higher carbide steels should allow it to do so for longer.

All depends on what you're cutting and how you use your knives...assuming they're being used I suppose.

Ok guys. If the Spyderco PM 2 is arguably one of the best Sypdercos to have, out of the normal models, Black or Digi Camo and Satin or DLC S30V blade, which combo has the Spyderco experience?

I'm assuming black scales, and satin blade. I don't think S30V needs coating. I'm guessing the coating will reduce the smoothness of the action. Is that a concern in Spyderco?

I'll buy one to try and if it sucks I will throw it in one of the car's tool kits or something.
