Bad Edges On Some Busse Blades. . .

downtown i agree,,,its gotta be razor sharp.there is nothing more beautiful than a sharp busse and nothing more dissapointing than getting a dull one.
thank you for the attention to this jerry:thumbup:

I'm REALLY glad to finally see this addressed properly. The past three Busses i've received have had SUB PAR edges, one bordering on horrific. My BWM had no edge on the top 3 inches of the blade. I think the biggest and most annoying problem isn't so much a lack of a razor sharp edge, but horribly uneven bevels. My boss jack near the tip had one side at roughly 60 degrees and the other at around 30 and the bevels never met to form a cutting edge. Before I got good at sharpening and was using an old hf 1x30, my edges were sub par, some ground too thin and some a little uneven, but they could all cut. My boss jack could not cut anything, it essentially had two spines. I thought that would probably be my last busse, just on principle, but since you're being very open on the issue and addressing it, I will give it another shot. All edges need sharpening eventually, but no one should have to put hours into evening up a lopsides bevel. Looking forward to the release of the new razor sharp folder!

Wow, it is really nice to read a thread started by a maker in which the maker humbles himself. I swear that as soon as I get the money together I am going to secure myself a place at the trough. Good on ya Jerry. This is quite timely considering the threads that are active in other subforums. This is just one more piece of the puzzle as to why you have such a die hard fanbase.

Eh, sh*t happens. Hard to say what's nitpicky and reality much anymore. I know I sent a recent folder backfor not being sharpened back to the choil, handmade too and as much if not more than some Busse's I've owned! Stuff happens. As long as it gets fixed, that's all that matters. Way to stand up on this one Jerry.

I'm glad this is being addressed. 3/4 of the last blades from the factory I've gotten were far from sharp. If I can get a sub $50 knife from another company that comes razor sharp, I expect a sub $500 knife to have at least a comparable edge.

That said, my FBMLE is the sharpest knife from a factory I've ever gotten. It almost scares me!

I guess I missed Peter's original thread where this issue came up. Anyone have the link???

Hmmm....FOLDER!!:eek::)

It's time for a new release. Distract me with a BOSS SHBM. Please. You can follow that up with a BOSS SHSHII. Thanks.:D:cool:

It's no big deal to me as I don't think anyone but Helle, Bark River, and Sebenzas come with an edge that I do not modify. My Boss street had a very thick, blunt edge that I doubt your averge joe shmoe would notice, but I did. I put that sucker on the belt grinder and when I was done I had one of the most amazing sharp knives I have ever gotten. Infi takes a great edge, and it gets that edge fast. I thought that it would lose the edge fast too, but low and behold it holds the screaming edge forever... I was really impressed with the steel! Infi definitely is what everyone makes it out to be.

I'm a bigger busse fan now and I have even more respect for Jerry after what he has said in this thread. I'm glad to hear this addressed by the Boss now because I have 2 knives under construction that will cost around $700 each.

Downtown, reddawn, and beefangusbeef-agree with you guys and I know Jerry and many others at the shop would too- if we spend this kind of money for high quality knives then they should come shaving sharp-every single one of them! I am always looking for a deal but I am the type that is more than willing to pay a higher price for higher quality if I know it's there. That being said, these kind of things happen sometimes in all great companies and brands at certain growth stages. The degree can be determined, not only by the guy in charge(even though it's always his name on the line) but by others working in the company as well of course. What's important is how it's being addressed and it looks to me like Bossman is going to pull out the Busse whip and crack it a couple of times to "realign the machine". We ain't got no worries. Sayyyy----I'm ready to spend more money on some INFI!!

I have never had any issues with my Busses. All have come quite sharp and often what I would call razor sharp.

But any company can have issues - no matter how good their products or quality control. Things happen. To me whats important is what they do if and when there is an issue. I have found (professionally speaking) Busse Customer Service to be one of - if not THE - BEST in any industry. They are my gold standard and its what I use in my own job to measure how I am doing.

Thank you Jerry and Company. You set the bar high and have never let me down - ever.

I sent my Boss Street back a few weeks ago after attempting several times to even up the grind ($48 postage too - bummer about living in the land down under) thanks to inspector 11 again :) Still waiting to hear back from them, but how much do they generally charge if it's been "modified"? (Modification was trying to use the mousepad + sandpaper method to even up and sharpen it, but it didn't work like I'd hoped. Still blunt due to my lack of skill)

You guys are fawning over Mr. Busse's sub-par performance and pledge your undying future loyalty and earnings to buy his knives. So be it.

I shelled out way over $400 for a BWM with G-10 handle with a cardboard sheath and it arrived the same week as my ESEE Junglas in a beautiful adjustable kydex sheath for $150.

My full convex edged Busse arrived with tiny little V grind that snagged paper when cutting. It wouldn't cut through a tall weed in my field. The weed bounced off of it silently laughing at my BWM.

The Junglas, on the other hand would go though small trees 4 - 5" diameter in a few cuts and has never needed anything but stropping to keep it scary sharp.

I even posted this same info - in this forum and was told that "Jerry ships them this way so we don't accidentally lose any digits!" Can you believe that response?

I sold that pig on a gun forum after posting it here for 2 weeks with no interest. and was fortunate enough to break even except for loss of state tax paid and shipping.

You sir have had your last shot of whiskey on my dime.

Took the words out of my mouth.Speaking directly to Busse might have mitigated the problem, but cziv has a legitimate complaint.

Whoever Inspector #11 is, I'd like to choke him or if a woman, have my wife do it.
