Bad Edges On Some Busse Blades. . .

Took the words out of my mouth.Speaking directly to Busse might have mitigated the problem, but cziv has a legitimate complaint.

I posted the problem on HIS forum for gosh sakes and got many responses like the one I posted and also to strop it on sandpaper etc.. But, I don't have a complaint anymore. I got out of the blade w/o any damage and I'm very satisfied with it's replacement. This was therapeutic for me though! :)

when were CG BWMs 'way over $400'?

a BOSS SHSH would be AWESOME.

This isn't a dig on him at all, but LK sells them for 400 in the exchange, and he generally is in the higher end of the pricing game. I can't imagine anyone would pay "way over 400" for a BWM without a sheath.

If you'd read "entire" my 1st post and do the math you wouldn't be asking this question. ;)

Can't you guys add? The knife was about new about $350 - I think it was actually $347 + $55 upgraded handle scales + 7% sales tax + shipping...got it now? Pushing $450 total.

I just received a BOSS Street new in cardboard with a similar problem. I sent a fellow member a PM asking about it, and was told that even though my Street appears to have uneven grinds, it's actually the edge which is off. After seeing your photos, it nearly matches mine.

Send it back to the shop, they'll fix it up np.

You're missing the point. Never mind.

We (as in Jerry and most of the rest of the others here) get the point, the edge grind is not correct, Jerry has said there have been problems. But at this point, he can't go back in time, fix it, then send it again for the first time so that it was like it was never off. The only resolution at this point in time is to send it back if the owner doesn't want to fix it themselves.

I don't worry to much about the edges as I sharpen my own knives. I'm curious as to what the people that don't sharpen their knives do when they use them and they get dull?

My Junglas has only required stropping to keep it's razor edge after using it all summer to cut down saplings, brush, a few juvenile trees.

Look at the guy's location for cripe's sake, I think he mentioned somewhere that return shipping would be $80?

Location: Žilina, Slovakia
That's not close to your house btw, you can't drive your car there either.

Every time I'm in this subforum, at some point, I feel like I've been taking crazy pills or something, after reading some of the threads and posts in here.

What other knife has such a great reputation that you can use a knife, not like it and sell it for what you paid for, minus shipping and fees? If you really wanted to make that knife yours, you could have. But you decided it was not for you and gave up just like that. That's your choice.
If you like a knife, you can change the edge on the knife to fit whatever you would like. A FBM LE comes from the factory with a V-grind which is best for chopping but there are many out there that will not chop down a tree with it, likes to fondle a cleaner sharper knife, so they may put a convex edge on it. So everyone is different... To each their own.

The vast majority complain, and ignore the fact that knives do in fact become dull when used. Most lose sight of the fact that they purchased a knife, and NOT a lifetime edge.

That's easy, they throw the plastic knife in the garbage and get another one from the box. Why do you think they don't sell them by the box and not in sigles? :D

I could argue that a V grind isn't ideal for chopping. And I've gotten the impression that people who reprofile their edges don't do it for fondling purposes. They do it because they use their knives.

My response to a "dull knife" question in the SW forum

Has everyone forgotten how to sharpen a knife? did we watch to many ginsu commercial's?

I understand that we would all like sharp well ground knives out of the box but truth is its rare that it happens. When you put knives on big bench stones you quickly find that about 1% of knives are correctly sharpened, all the more reason to sharpen your knife as soon as you get it.

What happens once you dull your new knife? do you send it back every time to be sharpened?

Even a simple $20 norton india stone will get your knife sharp in short time no need to ever send a knife back for sharpening and you can keep it sharp.

Should the factory of any knife company strive to turn out better edges? yes.

Should we complain when we don't get the edge we like from the factory? no.

Lets not forget sharpening is part of knife ownership and responsibility.

I for one, sharpen my knives, but I think you can understand someone spending the not small price for a Busse and having it not sharp at all, being peeved.

Some may not like the toothy-ness of the factory edges, but Jerry doesn't cater to the bushcrafting crowd, and frankly, a toothy edge is superior for nearly every other task other than woodwork (meaning whittling, not chopping), or measuring a certain body part by shaving with your knife.

If it wasn't for posts here, I wouldn't know that Busse blades came dull sometimes, all of mine have been sharp enough. I'm actually glad to hear that this is a "problem" as opposed to "business as normal". I'm glad glad Jerry is on top of the problem.

Good job bossman! :thumbup::thumbup:

that's half-ridiculous...

of course subsequent sharpenings and maintenance are the responsibility of the owner, and of course knives will dull with use, but sure as the sky is blue sometimes - the damned thing better come shaving sharp from the get-go.

the idea that one should have to sharpen a new knife before use is wholly absurd. and, it appears Jerry agrees - thankfully. new guns shoot when you buy them, new cars drive, and new knives better cut, with ease, impressively...

I agree:thumbup:

In a world where most are afraid to take responsibility and the substandard is the norm Jerry's is a refreshing post. Sh&t happens, things get missed and even space shuttles blow up but it sounds like the man is on the job. Thanks.
Josh

Jerry's response and attitude to this are as expected. This kind of customer service is why I keep spending my money buying what he's selling. I encourage you to keep supporting American small business by voting with your wallet.

Now, let's all get to work dulling our INFI. Chop something, already!!! Surely there's a table leg around her that my pocket Cultie can whittle on:D
