Bad Edges On Some Busse Blades. . .

In a world where most are afraid to take responsibility and the substandard is the norm Jerry's is a refreshing post. Sh&t happens, things get missed and even space shuttles blow up but it sounds like the man is on the job. Thanks.
Josh

We have seen Busse Combat increase the numbers of knives coming out exponentially over the past 3 years, especially considering the Swamp Rat and Custom Shop output. That kind of growth in a company is bound to have a certain number of sticking points. Sub-par edges have been the one problem Busse Combat has had, but Jerry has done about everything that he can do to make it right. The infamous inspector has been relieved of those duties and possibly their job. The turn around for resharpening has been tremendous, and the promise to remedy the situation with new, specialized grinders is all I can ask for going forward. I am personally excited to see Jerry's new designs and their sick edges moving forward.

SoulRackO'Ribs -- Busse Fanboy. :o

The edges on Busse knives are simply abysmal. It's the running joke amongst knife collectors. The thing is that there's no motivation or incentive on Busse's part to produce a sharp knife. There's legions of fans who will buy sight unseen anything he throws out. Take the rusty comp finish sarquatch for example.

What makes me wonder is the inspection stickers and swine shaving sheets. What do those mean? If Jerry now admits a problem, how are we to believe the inspection stickers and shaving sheets? Seems that any quality control is very questionable.

I returned my SAR 3 with inspector 11 back to Busse to get it resharpened. The blade was evened out, but it was not sharp, couldn't slice paper. I'm expecting mine back any day. I'm certain Busse will take additional care in reviewing each knife before its shipped. I can't wait until Busse includes sheaths with their knives, or even offer a discounted price with it. BTW, I ended up buying another Busse, BWM and it came paper slicing sharp. I think the era of dull and uneven blades in Busse may be long gone!

What if I have to ship all mine back for a poor edge.

Better just to have Garth come here

Sometimes you have to see the bright side....

When you sell your Busse with a poor edge on the exchange you can honestly say that it has never been sharpened

don't hold your breath.

they used to, but it's better now that they don't... too many people have different tastes in sheaths, and Busse isn't in the sheath-making business, so the knives are lower cost (really), and you get to choose.

it's much better this way.

I disagree. While their edges were all thicker behind the bevel than is probably most common in the industry, all the Busse knives I've owned came sharp enough to shave my arm baby smooth- even the fat SFNO that is almost obscenely thick at the spine. I expect this is more the norm and the current QC issues the anomaly.

That being said, judging by your other thread (axe to grind much? horse to beat? It certainly would have been pertinent to this thread and, imo, does not warrant a separate thread) on the topic I expect this will fall on deaf ears.

We receive less than 1/2 of 1% complaints about anything concerning our knives. . . We fix EVERY single problem to the customer's satisfaction. PERIOD!

If you do not contact us when there is a perceived problem, we can not fix it, nor can we address it. If you believe that there is a problem, then call us at (419) 923-6471 or email us amy@bussecombat.com. . . . DO THIS FIRST!!!!!. . . If we refuse to fix your problem, then feel free take us to task on a public forum.

I am locking this down as it seems that there are some who view this as an opportunity to pile on instead of seeing it as an opportunity to address a problem and fix it.

At the end of the day, the fact still remains that Busse Knife Group makes the highest performance fixed blades in the world. There is no other manufacturer on the planet who will stand up in front of a "LIVE" audience and put their reputation on the line by attempting to duplicate our performance demonstration. . . . . None!

So, the question becomes. . . . What do you want to buy? . . . . Do you want to buy the most proven, extreme performance fixed blades ever made, with a slight chance of getting a sub-par factory edge? . . . . Or, do you want to buy a sub-par fixed blade with a slight chance of getting a better factory edge?

You decide, I'll be drinking. . .

Jerry
