I would like to tell some words from other side of ocean in reply to post of Mr. BladeGoblin “I need help”. Two months ago I have paid to BladeGoblin money for 2 knifes. Now I have no knifes, no tracking number, no any information, no money. I do not know what shipping method he has chose. He didn`t give me the chance to choose a shipping method, just sent it and informed me that knifes are sent. It is unique package from Bladeforums which is not arrived. The others packages are arrived in safely. I know, that Mr. BladeGoblin is old and dear BF member, but everyone can make a mistake. Probably, he has not given enough attention to a choice of a reliable shipping method. He has chose a doubtful and unreliable shipping method and as a result I have lost my money.

Let's imagine that you are buy the TV. You have already paid money in cash office, but the shop is on the second floor. You stand and wait, and the seller throws the TV to you from the second floor. The TV is broken. The seller speaks that he has chosen this method of TV transportation because it easy and fast. He speaks, that it is your problems if TV was broke. He has sent it to you from the second floor, and he has already done his work, and that`s all. He speaks, it`s ALL YOUR PROBLEMS.
Funny, right? But not funny to me, because I have loss. If I`m not right, explain me please, what is the difference between knifes and that TV?

May I give the little advice to the sellers who sending knifes to Russia? Always use a shipping with TRACKING NUMBER. It is easy for you. No one package with track # has not been lost. The site of a knife shows on www.USPS.com, and the situation is clear. But if the buyer outside US has no track # - this is a nightmare.
Thank you for attention.
Regards,
Artem.

Situations like this are why buyers and sellers need to settle these things up front BEFORE shipping. Unfortunately shipping outside the US is dubious at best with any shipping co. I make it clear that if I am shipping across borders I can not be responsible for loss. If the buyer doesn't agree, then no harm/no foul. I feel for your loss. I really do. Fed Ex and UPS intl shipping is outrageous and USPS is affordable but offers no real protection. Add to that, customs and local PO/delivery services and way too many folks have an oppurtunity to steal or delay shipments. Now you mentioned the sender did not give you an oppurtunity to choose a carrier. Did you tell him "I'll take it" without adding "if you'll use XYZ shipping"? I know it sounds complicated but there is no sense closing the deal if you haven't nailed down the details. Sending your shipping info without your request is really your fault. If I get a buyer who sends me an "I'll take it" and an addy with no instructions then the assumption is there are no special instructions. Way too many of these threads lately. Read the instructions in the sticky on how to have a good trade/buying experiance. Lots of good info there from folks who have been there, done that. Again sorry for the hassles you are going through. I hope both parties learn from it.

BladeGoblin may never have shipped a knife to Russia before, and wouldn't know which carrier would do the best job. If you have previously received knives from the US and have found what you consider to be the best method of shipping, you should give that information to the seller. I do however agree that when shipping anything of value that only a method that includes tracking is acceptable.

Also, there has to be an agreement on the part of the buyer before the seller can put the loss on to the buyer. A seller can't just ship something and if it gets lost or stolen say to the buyer that it is his/her problem.

Hello,
I have done business with both of these men. Neither is a crook. Shipping to Russia is a pain. When I did my deal with kristopher_robin, I informed him of the way I was going to ship and that he was responsible for paying the shipping. He understood that I was getting insurance and he was paying for it. The package took over a month to arrive IIRC but it did get there.

BladeGoblin was a little careless with shipping. When you ship to a place like Russia, you have to work out the details BEFORE you seal the deal. I will still ship to Russia but I make sure the buyer knows the deal and will accept the risk. If he won't accept the risk in writing, I don't ship. I am honest but I am not going to pay for a lost knife if I can help it. Even getting insurance is not 100% reliable.

. . . I do however agree that when shipping anything of value that only a method that includes tracking is acceptable. . . . Of course, concise and upfront communication re: shipping expectations of both buyer and seller is always key. That said, I gotta agree with the above unless the seller disavows all responsibility at the outset, states so as part of the terms of the deal and the buyer understands and accepts such terms. I guess I always assume that the shipping and insurance charges (w/ tracking) are part of the agreed upon price for the item being sold unless stated otherwise. Generally speaking, shipping anything of substantial value without insurance of some kind seems like so much wishful thinking.

If the inherent risks involved in international shipping are not acceptable to a buyer/seller in the States, he/she should ship or or buy CONUS only and eliminate any potential international shipping hassles/risk altogether.

my post office told me that they cannot provide tracking numbers for overseas packages, that once it leaves he US, it cannot be tracked. the exception would be air packages, very expensive.

You can track USPS parcels going to Canada using the canadapost.ca package tracker!

So please keep selling to us! :)

this story is probably gonna put an end to any int'l shipping for me, its just not worth it, too damned many hassles.

sorry, folks.

i havent had any packages go mia overseas, but some have taken quite a long time to arrive. one took two months, and since i use usps normally, like others have said, no way to track.

ive shipped to italy, australia, holland, sweden, canada, all over. i normally ask the buyer to cover additional charges beyond a certain amount. if they would like fed ex or ups, though none have, it is very pricey.

there is also the issue of customs and customs charges, as in another thread. i will no longer declare anything under valued, since i dont want to break any international law.

so, ill still ship overseas, but it will likely be very expensive.

I am still willing to try as long as both parties agree on how the knife will be shipped, etc. I have dealt with several very understanding folks outside the US and they always treat me right. Just don't get over anxious if the knife isn't there in a week or two cause i think it gets a world tour first but if i say I sent it than you can trust i sent it.

yup. ive met some real good people here that are overseas/borders. i wouldnt want to exclude them because of the bad experiences of others. but i will continue to make sure the shipping options are discussed prior to sending.

same here MoriMotom, I agree there are alot of good folks across the pond and although it can be difficult and a few more hassles to ship as long as both parties understand this and don't get all irrate if something doesn't show up right away that we have no control of.

I don't know about Russia, but shipping to Singapore and Thailand is very easy and reliable. I've received over 100 packages in the past 7 years, the only missing items were when:

- the seller didn't write the address carefully (the post office kept a copy of the shipping doc when I checked and a bad neighbour kept the parcel)

- when the item was registered ie. didn't use USPS global priority or express

please do continue to sell to us here.

Anyways, I hope the parties resolve this to their respective satisfaction.

good on you mate  i always pay my full amount of shipping , and i converse with the seller until the full terms of the deal are set . i thanks all the poeple who have dealt with me internationally.

I received all shipments sent from US within 1-2 weeks but it took almost 6 months to deliver package to Australia! (I claimed the package lost and received insurance - then the package was actually delivered).

again: Good communication between seller and buyer is essential.

I am doing a trade with one of our British brethren, and hope that our packages arrive intact. One of the perils of shipping outside our countries borders. I'm just glad that in America, we don't have to worry, well, not too much anyway, about our packages being rifled through INSIDE our borders.

I agree with this 100%. I buy a lot of knives form BF and USN and know the best way to send stuff to me and the most cost effective way to send it. Shipping can range from $15 US to $75US for the same item but I know how to get it sent to me for $15 US every time and let the sellers know. Another thing, you need to be patient. I am not sure how long you have waited Artem, but my packages can take between 1 week and 6 weeks to arrive. Another mate got his delivery from a big store in the US also after 3 months because even though the seller labelled it correctly (I think), it got sent to Austria first and then to Australia!

>once it leaves he US, it cannot be tracked
not true. that postmasters are <insert your favorite swearword here>
NewGraham always ships to Russia via USPS Global Express.
I takes usually 4 (sic!) days plus day or two of customs clearance. Here in Russia EMS Russian Post http://www.emspost.ru/en/ handles them and delivers right to your door. Yeah, and it can be tracked.
