....and as far as rejecting the package once you receive it..REALLY! Take some responsibility for doing something silly like soaking it in oil!

Do I need to SCREAM this! ONCE YOU SOAKED IT IN OIL, WHICH YOU ADMIT, YOU MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO ACCEPT THE KNIFE BACK!! Who cares about anything else at this point.. It's like asking if a carseat has a cigarette burn on the seat AFTER you torch THE ENTIRE CAR!!

Two questions:

1) Was this knife preowned or new from the maker?

2) Is there vertical play in the knife?

I assume you've read some of the other members comments about completely soaking a knife in oil. WHY DO YOU NOT GET IT YET? It was so completely oiled that my fingers, Laptop were also covered in oil. OMG!

My buddy summed it up best!!!

The fact that it was oiled means a couple of things

One - who ever has it next will need to disassemble it to clean it - which in may cases will void the warranty
2 - the lock bar will stick like hell (which is probably the reason for the sharpie)

Three - he says "I oil all my knives" so he admits its his and that he chose to oil it as if it were his own - but then decides no I want to return it - mind u never mentioning that it has been oiled to heck

One would assume that PRIOR to oiling the crap out of the blade AS IF IT WAS YOURS you would be darn sure you meant to keep it.

Normally ANYTHING that changes a knife how it was originally received means u can't send it back and claim a refund. Especially a change that will now require a full disassembly and cleaning. I fail to see why something HE did to the knife now becomes YOUR responsibility to fix

Frankp advised he bought off of a knife maker, who bought from Jake.

When in the closed position, It's almost as if the Detent was not firmly holding the blade. It would slightly protrude from the handle.

If the knife came back to you with any rust you'd be freaking out, wondering if I removed the finish.

Disassembly not required to wipe the sides of the knife and blade with a towel. However, disassembly does not void Hobacks warranty, last I knew.

I didn't tinker with the knife, I didn't sharpie the knife, nor did I cause the closed blade play.

frank , reading this, did you place the blue mark to highlight the scuff caused by the rub ?? some are wondering about the mark, but you did that to highlight rub ??? correct ?? blade 100% changed, looks like no one is due any refund ! why refund someone who soaked a blade. pwerfel why would you ask about a refund ? do you feel one is due ???

Actually Treeshaker,

I asked about the status of the refund because I DO NOT think one is due...

The knife should have been returned in exactly the same condition that is was mailed, not soaked in oil...

I'm not sure I understand the basis for the hysterics over the oil. This knife is made of metal, yes?

Me either. I would have cleaned the oil off to see if it's purpose was to hide something.

I had a friend who had me work on his 1911. It was like he dipped it in a bucket of oil. He received it back properly oiled with the explanation of why too much lube attracts dust/dirt.

Ignoring the moderator request is not looking good for the seller.

I would like to see the email exchange between the both of you. Both of you please promptly forward the exchange to my email address.

Since there is no way for me to know for 100% certainty that the knife does not have problems that did not exist when I sent it to MeatyBacchus478. I am offering MeatyBacchus478 here publicly to pay for any repairs and shipping that Jake deems necessary. I always wanted him to have a perfect knife and I believe if he accepts, this will be the best outcome for both of us.

1.) Knife was bought from a member described as new from Jake. When I received it there was no reason for me to doubt that. The pics should show that to some extent. I placed it for sale immediately and it was bought within one minute by Meat.
2.) I did not notice any blade play when I initially bought the knife only that it was rock solid when extended in locked out position.

The bottom quote is pulled directly from the sale....

It is my concerned opinion that the knife was not accurately nor completely described at time of sale, causing the buyer to be dissatisfied with his purchase. While the buyer should not have tampered at all with the knife before returning it, the oil nor the sharpie are hard to remove without needing to disassemble the knife. The buyer should not have to pay for repairs to the knife.

Since the seller and buyer had already agreed to a refund contingent upon return of the knife, the seller should honor his word and do so.

I have legitimate concerns about the honesty of the buyer. I would be foolish to accept the knife in its current state. I reiterate I would like to offer to pay all shipping and repair costs , if needed, as determined by the man who made the knife. This way MEAT gets the knife he agreed to buy in the condition I ALWAYS wanted him to receive and in the perfect condition I believe I sent the knife.

thank you for your complete and respectful answer. all i wanted to know..

What about your statement that the knife was "brand new from maker"...When it turns out that it was from another member?
It certainly bring to question your own honesty.
It is your responsibility to check the knife and accurately describe it's condition prior to sale.

If anything, and if MeatBacchus478 agrees to it, you should split the cost of any repairs and shipping needed. Otherwise you should honor your word and refund the money as you agreed to.
