I contacted Meat this morning through email to explain that I have contacted Jake and that in that email said I would pay for all repair work Jake felt was in order. I have not heard from back from MEAT. The knife is being sent back to Meat as it was not received in the same condition I sent it as seen in the pics above. If he refuses to accept the package I let him know that it will stay unopened in this package until which time he decides to instruct me on what I need to do.

I didn't oil the knife until I shipped it to you. The problem was present before I oiled it.

I am awaiting my refund, not the knife.

It is all metal - the oil does nothing to harm it. After all the evidence provided - much by the seller themselves; seems a refund is in order (if that is what the buyer wants). FrankP please do the right thing and refund the man.

Nice catch, Karda!

I saw this squabble blow-up over on USN now too, but there's a lot more details on here.

It seems the seller was not honest: the knife was not brand new from the maker. That would seem to trump anything else.

No clue why the buyer soaked the knife in oil. Should have simply returned it as he received it if he was not happy. That was just stupid.

But dishonestly is a more glaring transgression than stupidity when it comes to deals.

He ought to get a full refund.
I bought the knife described as brand new. When I received it I never used it but sold it within 30 minutes of it arriving at my home. To ME it was new. It also looked new as evidenced by the pics over the tan tiles. It functioned well the one time I flipped it , felt for blade play, examined the lockup etc. Again, This was sold to me NEW I had no reason to doubt it my looking at it in my hand.

Frank I must admit to having a question here. YOu stated that the picture with the blue sharpie mark is from the original seller correct?? If so, why did you claim the buyer put the mark on the blade if the original seller did it?? Also, isn't the picture with the blue marker on it in the AFTER section of your pictures......all of them having the same backdrop of the laptop computer?? Please help me out here 'cause if I'm completely missing something or just totally off-base.....love to be wrong. The only thing I feel I might be confused on is if you're referring to the original two pictures in your thread with your name written in blue vs. the after pictures that shows the blue sharpie on the blade.....if you're referring to the former rather than the latter my question will be answered!

Response to Karda's above post.

1. I never noticed any blade play when I sold it to MEAT. The knife worked perfect
2. I am not and expert knife maker but was told my knife enthusiasts that the fact it was covered it oil can cause the problems Meat is stating.
3. The Blue sharpie pic is from the original seller. The pictures taken with the knife in my hand over the tan floor are mine moments before placing the knife for sale and a few minutes after I received the knife from the original seller.
P.S. I have explained to you that the conversation between Meat and I was through my personal email and VERY long. I asked repeatedly for your email so I to FORWARD the entire thing to you. You have not sent that to me but said I should use the email button on BF. That would mean I would have to go into each separate email ( 72 of them ) and send them individually! That is silly and would take forever. If I simple had your email I would just forward the ENTIRE thread from my GMAIL.

Oil will not hurt a hoback. Just wipe it off. I oil all of my custom knives. And I use a sharpie to fix sticky locks. It works.

I have no doubt Frank did not notice the lockup / detent issue when he had it. I've never had an issue with Frank before.

But, honestly, it went to my core when I felt he was accusing me of doing the damage and marking it with a sharpie. I simply oiled it so it didn't rust, that's it. No hidden intentions. I have a kwaiback that the 4V lock insert rusted in transit.

This fuss about the oil is quite preposterous, what are you going to use as lubrication and to care for the "tool steels" used in this knife ? (I see the balde is possibly 4v and the lock face is 3v)........

I think it would have been wise to just reverse the deal and have been done with it, you could have just resold it.....this hassle over the deal and attention you're getting now was not what you needed. I can see you just want to hold on to the cash by any means possible having made a quick flip on the knife though.

Meat thank you! I tried to contact you in email this am. I should CLEARLY in ONE place state the following as I am getting dizzy! I am NOT 100% sure if the sharpie was present when I sold it. I am 100% sure I did not see it. I 100% did not fell ANYTHING wrong with the knife BEFORE selling it to you. The knife was returned completely dripping in oil so not in the way I sent it to you. I have been told by some people that this CAN affect a knife. For that reason I wanted to send back to you BUT agree to pay all the repairs that jake feels are needed to get the knife to your liking.
Let's figure this out!

I returned the knife to you, upon my receipt it had an issue, I oiled it to prevent rust and sent it back to you.

I am requesting a refund, as the knife had an issue before being oiled. You can deal with having it repaired as it existed upon my receipt. If you want to offer to sell it to me once repaired send me an email.

I am only requesting a refund. Thank you.

That is a nice gesture Frank. However, you are clearly in the wrong by listing the knife as NEW when it wasn't and besmirching the buyer's integrity over issues like the lock up and sharpie when you now admit you cannot say for certain it wasn't there prior to your original shipment. You turned or flipped the knife without due diligence....that is not the buyer's fault, it is, however, surely yours. Meat is owed a full refund....you can then work with Jake to repair whatever is wrong with the knife and then attempt to sell the blade upon its return....with full declaration about said work. Frank, this is the right thing to do..........

I understand. That is too bad. I guess YOU wish to talk here as you are not responding elsewhere. That is fine. Then for the record I am sending this back to you as it was returned not as I sent it ( covered in oil ). It is being shipped today. My offer to pay for all repairs stands. In my opinion once you covered the knife completely in oil you took possession. If you refuse receipt of the knife and it is returned to me I will hold the package ( unopened ) until you instruct me otherwise. I truly wish you had just sent me back the knife without covering it in oil. It gave me concern of what else you may have done to it. This concern and the concern of the potential damage is what is preventing me from issuing you a refund.

What is the damage, potential or otherwise, you think the oil is going to do and who told you that ?

Frank, you are clearly in the wrong here. NEVER list a knife new from maker if its not.
You need to stop this and give him his refund.

Did you pay with PP ? If you did and didn't use the gift option you need to file a claim today. He has stated he is going to send the knife back, so I don't think he is going to refund. Refuse it, and make sure to start the PP dispute before time runs out.
Good luck.

I have a question for op.
if oil bothers you so much are you even old enough to posses knives?
Kinda seems like an immature stance only a child would take to get there way.

When i got my Sirius from Dalibor Bergam it was also oiled, but never once did i think of blowing it up to this extent. And for the sharpie, my last four striders came with sharpie on the tang and no issue what so ever

USPS Tracking # still showing just the label was created, not picked up.

Yes I know. It is in my mailbox with a USPS scheduled pick up for today. The mailman should come by around 2PM. It is 11:11 here now. I can let you know the moment he comes by.

Hmmm this seems to be a whole new song hes singing

Why send the knife back? You already know he is going to refuse it and it will make its way right back to you. Seems pointless to me and also seems like an opportunity for something to happen to the knife during what will certainly be a 2-way transit.

Responding to KEN44

I NEVER EVER ask a seller to pay using the "as gift"option. I do state NET to me. I expect the buyer to then pay Paypal fees. I would hope after that the buyer doesn't commit fraud.
