I apologize in advance for the length of this post, but rather than make accusations or call names, I intend to state the facts for anyone who may be considering dealing with Dan.
Dan (Yager) and I agreed to trade my mint Mud Razor for his mint Mole Jack on Tuesday. I thought this was interesting since he had a Mud Razor for sale on the exchange at the time. I shipped the MR Wednesday, insured and sig. receipt reqd.
When I hadnt heard anything (or received anything) by the following Monday I emailed Dan and he replied that he had received the MR on Friday and had shipped the Mole on Friday as well.
There followed a bit of confusion since UPS delivered the Mole to the wrong house and the people there were on vacation. When I finally got the knife, I was pretty disappointed- it has a wire edge (burr) for 1/3-1/2 the length of the edge and is missing a spot of coating on one of the points of the butt.
I thought about this for a few days as to whether I had a legitimate gripe or not, since it probably came from the factory that way. I decided that since the knife I sent him had been flawless, and there was no way that I would have listed the Mole in that condition as mint without mentioning the flaws, that I would ask Dan to reverse the trade.
I emailed him advising him that I was not happy with the condition of the knife and offering to pay for shipping to reverse the trade. He said he was sorry but that he had already traded the knife. Period.
He sent me an email the following day asking if I wanted to sell the Mole Jack. I thought that he was offering to make this right and said that I would be very interested in selling him the knife for an amount that would let me replace my Mud Razor. (These knives sold for the same price new and Dan had one of each for sale on the exchange at the same price) I also asked him what he had got for my Mud Razor and offered to consider other knives in trade.
He replied that $250 was the most he would go! (He was selling the MR and MJ for $330 each on the exchange) He ignored the question about what he got for my knife, and offered nothing else in trade.
Please note that he never asked why I wasnt happy with the condition of the knife- this tells me that either he knew why, didnt care, or both. I see offering me $250 for the knife not as an attempt to make things right, but an attempt to take further advantage of me.
I could deal with the slow shipping and poor communication, but as far as Im concerned, the knife was misrepresented and absolutely no thought was given to fairness or creating a satisfied customer- so much for "the deal's not done 'til everyone is happy"- Buyer Beware!
