Bark River has taken $16,000 of My Money

I've read the threads through and through, just one quick point I'd like to add to the discussion.

Of course Mike Stewart has his own perspective on the matter, everybody has to have justification for their actions towards others, else they could be considered a sociopath.

It's just, Mike's justifications thus far have not been rational to anybody else (besides, maybe, a select few), unable to stand on their own, it seems infallible.

For me, this thread all seems to boil down to these two questions:
What does the select few know that we don't? Or do their morals with regards to this particular issue simply lie more in line with Mike Stewart's?

I'm sure we would all like to know if there is anything that show Mike Stewart's character in a different light...or if that is a pipe-dream and our morals ("us" and Mike's) are simply not so attuned as some of us once thought.

I would like to ask one thing why would you give him 16.000 dollars up front and leave a balance of 200.00 and some dollars you would have thought that you would have held some of that back tell he was ready to ship. and then payed the balance of it. it seams to me that i would gave him enough money to do a prototype and then gave him 50% down and the rest on the ship date. and i,am not sticking up for mike at all i have my problems with he,s knives. on the other hand if i gave somebody 16.000 dollars and he ddn,t come threw i think i would be setting on he,s door step collecting my money or my product not writing everything all over this forum thinking that it would get your money back.

Most of what can be said on this subject has already been argued by one side or the other; but while I may just be hauling more coal to Newcastle, I can't help but comment on this thread.
I haven't had any direct dealings with MS or Bark River for a couple of years. I used to be a distributor of them, but haven't dealt any in a while for reasons that have nothing to do with either Mike or the product. I don't have a dog in this fight. But, while I understand that Mike Stewart has a colorful and controversial history in the knife business, my own personal experience with him was always postive, and he went out of his way a couple of times to make alterations to knives that I requested. I don't know of another company that gives as much personal service as Bark River does. Some of this models I like better than others -- I'm partial to the A2 models, but I've seen a lot of his knives, and think they are well made and a quality product.
I don't say that Mike is perfect, but I have nothing to complain about with any of my dealing with him. Some of y'all have apparently had different experiences, and I respect your opinions. I just know that he makes some damn good knives, and that, to me, counts for something.

I doubt anyone can really say MS is innocent of any wrongdoing, and anyone that does is sticking up for a friend.
Am I the only one that doesn't have a problem with people sticking up for their friends?
His supporters really haven't done anything wrong, why paint them all with the same tar brush?
As for me, I am no fan boy but of the hundreds of dollars in knives I own my bark rivers are among my favourite, easily.
Will I buy again? I think so. That's a question each of us has the right to ask ourselves.

Fair enough, that's your prerogative. Personally, I've been looking at picking up some BKRT knifes for awhile as have a number of friends due to good steel and many handle options. After reading this thread, however, I won't be purchasing anything from BKRT and will send a link to this thread along to anyone I know who considers purchasing from BKRT.

Taking a man's money like Mike Stewart did and failing to deliver on time is bad business but not providing an immediate refund after failing to deliver is criminal. A business run with those type of underhanded practices doesn't deserve my money.

At this point, I don't think there's anything left to be said in this thread.

Snarlslayer got his money back. He was put into a bad situation and it was handled poorly... the only positive aspect of it was that he got his money back without a lawsuit.

Past that, I think we're done here.
