seems to me, if you're using your knife to cut food, it's an eating utinsel, not a weapon. in oklahoma, though, if somebody sees your weapon , even its imprint on your shirt, you're "brandishing", and risk losing your CCL.

i work at lowe's, and use my pocket knife when they decide to feed us steaks for whatever morale boost, and it's only gotten a few concerned looks. carrying a folder at lowe's is a terminable offense.

No, it would still be a weapon because the restaurant supplies the eating utensils.

The second you pull it out it becomes a weapon, it's the same as pulling out a gun.

...that pretty much sums it up...no steak restaurant worth a darn is not going to have steak knives that don't cut...

Exactly, if I can't cut the steak then they need to get me a new knife or another steak.

Although in my 44 years I have NEVER had that problem and I love steakhouses. :D

Hell even the Waffle House has good steak knives. :jerkit:

then, are defense/offense the only uses for a good knife? someone using a knife to cut food shouldn't warrant a call to 911.

i understand your point, but sheeple are sheeple, and can eventually be acclimated to new ideas. (carrying a knife=new idea?)
it's kind of like the open carry/concealed carry debate in the gun community.

No, but there are times and places to use them, a crowded restaurant isn't the place to pull one out.

Sheeples are what they are, nothing we can do about that. ;)

But you (we) can use common sense and avoid possible problems with law enforcement. It only takes about 3 seconds to call 911 on a cell phone.

I've been in restaurants that supplied steak knives that cut well but looked like Ginsu knives -- flat stamped, serrated, with cheap handles. ANYONE freaking out at me quietly using my Mnandi to slice up a lamb chop is a moron who isn't going to get police or judge to take him seriously. The overall length of the Mnandi is generally no more than the blade length of the steak knife. Maybe I should start bringing my Bob T Slipit.

I'm confused - you are stating that pulling a knife out to cut a steak at an eating establishment makes it a weapon? The knife I have used to cut food was shorter than the crap they gave me to cut with.

I'd be interested in hearing some of these stories you have.

Yes that is what I am saying. ;)

IF someone calls the police you can be arrested.

It's the same as I said, pulling out a gun...

And yes I have seen people get taken out in handcuffs more than a few times.

It's pretty simple really....

Idiot pulls out his knife, flips it open, someone hears the click, calls 911, the police come then in a few mins they haul them out in cuffs.

All the times I have seen it have been about the same.

Wow - That's the first I've heard. That sucks.... I couldn't imagine calling 911 because someone was cutting a steak. That's just crazy talk.

Having seen it happen a few times I bet you are pretty reluctant to use your knife ;)

All it takes is one person, the wrong person to see it. ;)

I never have had to pull a blade out in a restaurant in my life. ;)

I have used my knives in public though when I was working etc, but that's different because it was needed for my job.

In what way is it the same as pulling a gun? Because the restaurant did not supply it? If I pull out a fork is it the same as pulling a gun?

Because it wouldn't be justified use more than likely depending on the town you are in and opinions of the people and Law Enforcement.

Just because the knife is legal to carry doesn't mean the person would be justified to pull it out in a public place.

Just because something is legal doesn't mean you can use it however you want to.

Ankerson ... baaahh ... ease up. Take a DEEP breath. We are not homicidal psychotics here. And you do not need to preach to us.

I am not preaching. LOL

I grew up carrying knives all my life, and in school too out in the open.

When I was in HS I carried my Buck 110 every day in the belt pouch, but then it was a different time than now. Nobody cared back in the 70's to early 80's.

Today is different.

I don't need justification to pull out a knife in a public place. As long as I'm not threatening, brandishing, or stabbing anyone else I most assuredly can use it however I want.

The knife would need to meet the legal definition of a weapon in whatever jurisdiction, or the person holding the knife would need to present a threat to a reasonable person, whatever that is defined by the law. Just because the cops arrest someone, that doesn't mean that person actually broke the law, they are just the first step in bringing them to someone who is qualified to make that determination.

It's sad that there are people stupid enough to feel threatened by a person eating dinner. I cannot for the life of me figure out how a folding knife is truly more weapon-like than the knives sitting on your table, or the ones in the kitchen.

...or your belt, or the salt shaker, or chair under you...
