Be Honest... Would you pay $625 for this knife?

As you can see, if you can front the Busse, he will compare the two side-by-side. Otherwise, speculation is off-topic.

Tsk, speculation was what made this thread happen in first place. Besides, one must speculate in order to start the idea of Busse knives being offered for testing purpose. Hence, I am entirely on the topic.

Oh and guess what! Trevitrace already offered his own Busse knife for testing purpose.

As you can see, talking about Busse knife within the context of Mr. Winkle's Challenge is entirely valid. ;)
Not only that, but if Mr Winkle managed to lose to the Busse knife, he will be able to give away a $600 knife to the Busse owner, which then help offset the cost of buying a Busse knife. Winners all around!

I think it would be great to have a giveaway with the knife. I considered my contribution a donation to the fireworks! Cray, feel free to do whatever you want with it. (That's my vote anyway)

First off, it's Winkler. With an R at the end. Second of all I am a HUGE fan of Busse knives and kin, but...

I leave this thread for a few days and come back and I'm all,

WOAH.

Pretty interested to see what the end result of this is. I'll be checking in to see what "progress" has been made.

I wonder if you even realize that Busse knives are known to have various different edges based on the owner's wishes since they can have various Blade Forum grinders regrind the edges to make it bite more.

Also, did you already forget that winkle even mentioned that he will push those knives so hard that he might end up buying a new one if the need occurs? ;)

So yeah, I'm still betting on the Busse knives.

I wonder if you realize that the edge of any knife can be reprofiled.

Primary grind is trickier, but there are certainly members here that are more than capable of it. Of course, if you go that far you're no longer really testing a Busse and, if you do both with an eye towards greater performance and cutting efficiency you'll be sacrificing a significant portion of the durability that you seem to be counting on.

Okay, fair enough. Get it going. If Trevitrace is serious, more power, go for it. I'm not giving up my TGLB for anything though, even if I was extremely rich. Love this thing. And yes, that is some use right there on a higher end knife, just in case anyone out there questioned if I used my knives, though this is not the first place on this wonderful forum I have posted pictures of knives in use or that show use. TMI?

Oh, BTW. Email was sent to Mr. Winkler.

Edit: and all be damned if I forgot to mention the Schrade as a GAW to him. Oh well, I'm sure it will be fine. Lot of stuff went down today. AC blew out in my car right before this all came together. Likely spend most of the afternoon on BFC at the car shop tomorrow afternoon.

+1.

The prices I am seeing on some knives lately is almost absurd.

Look at this recent piece by Winkler Knives:

http://www.bladehq.com/item--Winkler-Knives-WKII-Camp-Knife--30333

$625 for a coated carbon steel blade with a simple flat grind and pancake kydex sheath? TBH, it looks like a simple Condor short machete with a coating...

I like many Winkler knives but I am really failing to see how this costs $625... or even $325

I understand that he market dictates pricing but if this is where the market is than I must be really cheap ;)

There is one born every minute. I wouldn't shell that kind of cash for this blade either.

Wow, this thread has gone completely off the deep end. Frankly, I'm shocked that it hasn't been shut down yet.

I'm pretty excited to see the Schrade go up against the Winkler. As I mentioned many pages ago, I don't believe that I have the discernment necessary to tell the difference between a $200 knife and one of Mr. Winkler's. I'll be interested to see how the cheaper blade fares against one that is out of my price range. Not to see which one wins, but to see how much of a difference there really is.

I'd also be pretty interested to see how a Winkler holds up against a Busse. They both seem to be very impressive knives, and I wouldn't hold it against either one no matter which way it went.

What's the knife in the tan sheath?

Wish I had more excuses to use my SP42... it needs some hard use marks on it. Wish I could wear a fixed blade all the time, although the SP42 is pretty big...

He pretty much stated exactly my sentiments when I came across this thread and saw that Busse knives deserved to be challenged by a product that the creator is willing to stand by.

I truly hope that this testing will end up being 3 knives: The Chinese knife, Mr Winkle(r) knife, and the Busse Knife.

I'm willing to bet it's a Swamp Rat RMB knife.

Yup, except for the typo ;) It is a Swamp Rat custom shop RatManDu. Fastly becoming my favorite mid size fixed blade. Sheath by Azwelke with the clip plate from an Esee 5/6. And in this shot I just took, you can see the mass clutter I have on my desk right now. All there for some sort of tinkering I'm sure. The TGLB, RMD, PM2, Native 5, and SAK all got some touching up and/or cleaning from a recent outing (yes, I and my daughter use our knives, just to be clear).

I knew I spelled the name wrong! Staring at the screen didn't help me correct it any faster so I just pressed "post reply" :p

Edit: By the way, that doesn't look like a custom. It looks more like a RMD LE knife instead.

I wouldn't pay $625 for any knife, or most handguns for that matter. Only material objects I've ever dropped that kind of money were vehicles and 2 rifles. I do have two guitars worth more than that but they were gifts.

Very cool.

The mid-sized black knife appears to have some of the best lines and shapes I've yet seen.

If you zoom in on the photo you can see it says "Custom Shop" underneath the Swamp Rat logo.
