I sincerely hope that we'll be able to see that sweet recurve machete get a workout.
Well I can tell you that it cuts grass very well... don't have any trees to chop down anywhere so we'll see how it does with the Oregon forest

I looked at drills, and the same thought about new batteries vs. new drill went through my mind.

This happened to me as well a few weeks ago. The Mikita battery was going to cost about the same as a whole new drill. I then one upped myself and got a drill and saw combo for about 50 bucks more.

Yeah, pretty much standard procedure with Milwaukee...
The budget DeWalt is about the only decent grade cordless with affordable "batteries only" but lithium is the way to go and I like Milwaukee. That 20v DeWalt is nice, I'd prob go with that if I ever regroup and replace my cordless set.

Only problem with the lithium-ion batteries is they die without notice. Even the ones with the little "fuel tank indicator" are useless in that regard. Not that I don't love everything else about them....but it sucks to be drilling in tight quarters and just have the thing run out of juice with no warning. That's one advantage of the Ni-MH batteries - that, and cost. Lithiums are twice as much and their service life isn't any better that I can see.

Dontcha miss the good ol' days when you'd buy a power tool and use it for-freaking-ever?

I still have (and often use) my Dad's old Black and Decker corded hand drill... which is nearly as old as I am. It's a freaking brick and I sure wouldn't want to carry it around a jobsite all day, but BY GAWD it still works! :)

Someday the chuck will finally wear out, and I will be very sad. Because as far as I can tell, no one make replacements for 'em anymore. :(

I haven't had that problem. Course I always have a spare charged and I check the level frequently and its been accurate in the several years i've been using them. They get real hard work on a daily basis and I like that they're full power till the bitter end. Nothing worse than a half dead battery that won't turn a hole saw.

I ran across Proton's cover letter for a job.

Somebody tripped on the extension cord.

I hate it when that happens...

And quoting seems broken...when I tried to quote this, the last multi-quote I did popped up instead.

And goodnight. Getting up early tomorrow to go visit a dairy goat farm about an hour away. My wife and I are planning our next venture into agriculture to build on the hay, honey, and eggs...

Made a little easy on/off belt loop for my Cam 11. Pretty easy to knock out.....though I have to unsheath it for the bottle opener function.
