Bear Grylls Knife

Haha...the guys real name is Edward Michael Grylls. No offense against those names...just kinda cheesy he changed it to...Bear...lol.

Made me chuckle so thot i'd pass it on...

Damn. This was brought back from the dead! I still like the looks of the knife, but I would rather buy a Ray Mears knife or a Koster Bushcraft. Think it would suite my needs better.

i really like that horizontal sheath...gonna try and make a similar one for a zt121...i think bear is using the serrated version...

For all you guys out there that complain about the price of the knife that Bear Grylls uses. If you cant afford one that means that you are no expert on this knife. it takes Rob Bayley 25 hours to make a single knife, he charges 350 British Pounds for each knife that works out that he earns 14 Pounds an hour. some of you are complaining that it is not value for money, well untill you actually buy one and feel the quality and the craftsmanship that is in this knife then you have no idea what you are talking about.
I have one. I waited a year for mine and during that year sometimes I was frustraited/Users/williambonney/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2009/baley knife/DSC01692.JPG but when it turned up the other day, the first thing I said is that it was worth the wait. as far as the cost goes! Well! It cost more to service my car, a plumber will charge you twice that to come to your house to fix a leak.
I am ordering another knife for my son. I have had loads of knifes over the years, but there is something about this one that makes you not want to put it down. buy one and see what I mean. untill then. Well! you know..

howdy Crazy, welcome to Bladeforums. I think that the big problem is, like you said, the difference in the exchange rate. At 350 dollars no one would really complain so much. But Bayley has to work in Pounds so it isn't his fault that the price in $ looks so high. It does look to be a fine knife.

It seems Bear occasionally slept in hotels rather than get eaten alive by mosquitos. Smart man.
Indeed.

I personally can't take his show serious, but it's hilarious to see him do his "parkour" in the wild just because he knows if he f!@#s up he has a full team to help him.

Cool looking knife, but pretty expensive for its size.

I love watching his show but never heard about the hotel scandal.

I went to check some pics of the Grylls knife at the Bayley website and the Bear signature knife is no more it seems. It's now "S4 survival". Is this change new?

I have to say I like the knife design and materials. Nice technical interpretation of the popular bushcraft knife type. I think the size and weight are well chosen for the type of use that it is meant for. The sheath model with the firesteel and pouch (sharpening stone?) looks very good and useful.

Thanks for the thread Horn Dog!

ive always wanted bears knife..looks awesome to me! Like most mortals i havent had the extra 700 bucks to get it...Thanks for making the purchase..let me know how it performs and maybe i will join in on the bear grylls knife fan club.

i like the show, better than the stupid sit coms & mindless reality shows,i just cant justify that kind of money for a 4" or so fixed blade, with all the knives available from fallkniven, rat,& others....

Wow having never seen it before just now, I kinda feel lame for making anything that resembles his design ...I like the sheath design but IMHO Bear Grylls is a turd !

EDIT: GO SURVIVOR MAN!!!!!!!

Sorry but Im not too anxious to buy a knife based on a guy that eats shit when he doesnt have too....Badass or not.

i was watching bear one evening and my girlfriend was cleaning out her purse next to me on the bed in my room and he ate some kinda poop or pee and she actually gagged and puked some into the well placed trashcan and said "i hope ya are happy" & he was a "nasty SOB" lol, needless to say we no longer share that program but it was funny, to me anyway.

Don't forget he drunk his own urine too :)
or the time when he squeezed elephant poo to get the liquid
or when he ate a maggot and it literally exploded in his mouth with all the puss and guts going everywhere - made me lol

But seriously, if I had the money I would probably buy it, and even if it wasn't as good as a 60 dollar brandname, that wouldn't bother me too much.

Personally I think that if I did have this knife I would use it because IMO thats what knifes, in particular knifes like these are made for - use

However I do see the value in keeping a knife on the shelf for a collectable purpose. But I would much rather, knowing that I spent a fair amount of money on a what looks to be a good knife, use that knife and enjoy the use of it.
Plus I mgiht feel 'cool' using the "Bear Grylls" knife

Just my 2 cents

I like his shows, they're very entertaining in my opinion, but I wouldn't buy his knife. It is too much money for me.

I guess asking Silverdagger is if he was just another armchair internet macho man was over the top. Sorry. It isn't my purpose to defend Bear, he can do that himself. He is not a phony, though. I sure hope the next knife I review won't be so contoversial. Judging by what I've seen on this forum, it can't be a Cold Steel. I could do Les Stroud's knife, but everbody already has a Buck Special. And I just will not buy the new Rambo machete. Anybody know where I can get a Crocodile Dundee knife?

Linder made the Croc knife, www.lindermesser.de (I think?)
