Bear Grylls Knife

I enjoyed this thread.

As much as I enjoy Bear being beat up online, I do have to give him credit for my renewed interest in certain fixed blades and knives.

Thanks for the update and let us know of your other knife finds.

I ordered one of those SSB1 in matte black G-10! and yes as a poor man's version (well not so poor) of the BG knife. When I said "just and update" by any means I was not referring to you but the other fellows. So you like the B1 CPM154 better?

600 bucks for a knife????????!!!!!!....at that price i'll buy a gun...and a moderately priced buck knife.lol

Thanks to the OP for the initial review of the knife, it's nice but just not for me.

The price is steep but if you have the jack to spend on it and you want it then go for it. You certainly won't be the first to spend that much on a knife.

Lastly, Its not that I don't care for Bear Grylls, It's that I don't care about him. Therefore, for those who do, I'll leave the bashing or defending to you guys.

I don't get why everybody is surprised, Randall Knives sell way above the price of micarta and 0-1 Steel, Jim Lile and Loveless knives prices are in the sky and they use common materials and standard construction methods. Aren't we KNIFE COLLECTORS:confused:? I've seen here similar knives made of wood handle and simple steels go well beyond that because they were custom made by someone famous in the knife community.

The main problem right now is the USD versus GBP exchange rates plus the are made in England not in Taiwan or China. If not this blade would be at 200-300 range not uncommon these days for High End Stainless Knives. Same thing happened to HK pistols in the 90's, they went well above $1000 for an item that you could get at least for $600 couple of years before.

Those of you who have seen what customs sell for should not be surpised. I have hundreds of knives. I like them. I wanted this one. I'm not trying to sell it or to sell anyone on it. Overpriced or not, it is a fine little knife.

Atleast you enjoy it. Thats all that matter :)

Hundreds of knives?!!! Man, Must be nice. I only have 2 right now. Funds just aren't ever there. Ah well.

In my opinion it's the best looking knife out there. I like the shape of the handle and the one piece solder-less guard. I'd challenge anyone out there to recommend something looks wise that'll change my mind...really, it's going for over 5 Benjamins right now so if there's better lookin please let me know.

Pick one. :D

How much? I guess that depends on the current exchange rate. I paid $675. Yeah. I know. That's a lot of money for a little bitty knife. I have been wondering about the cutout myself. Don't know yet. This knife did not exist during the previous shows. I am thinking it will be in the new Man vs Wild, if the silly hotel scandel doesn't get it cancelled. It is a nicely made little knife and it is truly razor sharp. Should be fine for slashing through those paper toilet seat protectors in hotels.

I heard something about that. i don't think it's that awful. so the guy slept in a hotel. he still more or less demonstrates how he would survive in the given situation

* any number of busses(would be cheaper to boot)

* mad dog SEAL ATAK2 or one of his other ones.(as good a FB as any imho with a top notch ergonomic handle)

* several of the ones offered by john greco.(wayyyy cheaper)

just to throw a few out there i could go on for a while lol.................

Bear knife looks pretty good, but when it comes to beauty, I'd say some of the knife makers on this forum make the most beautiful knives I've ever seen.

Like the guy who make a spartan sword from the movie 300...that was so awesome.

No one has addressed the obvious. Do termites - or baluga caviar - have a metallic taste when eaten with a Bayley/Bear knife? In my world, my $34 Wally World Buck 119 doesn't alter the taste of my can-o-tuna-fish. Just wondering.

Stainz

As for that, my Becker Bk2 at $60 is one-tenth the price, and ten times the value. It cuts just as well as Bear's knife, and is probably just as tough.
