Bear Grylls Knife

You know, anyone that would eat bear shit for a TV show has to have something wrong with them. Other than that, the knife looks pretty good.

Actually, Bear is not an actor at all. He is a former SAS commando, a renowned mountain climber, and a survival expert. He does have a support crew, but his "stunts" are not faked. If he stays in a hotel some of the time, who cares? In my youth, I went through some tough training and spent a whole year in the jungle. Even in my peak of training and conditioning, I would not put my skills up against his. Actually, I think some of the things he does take unnecessary risks . He is British, so his way of speaking and mannerisms are not American. He is not some pansy in pink, though. As for the knife, I think I have covered it. Yes, a $10 Mora will do most of what his custom will do.

I completely agree Bear Grylls is one of the toughest men in the 'adventuring' business. So what, he takes a few breaks during the filming, but that does NOT mean he is a 'fake'. I'd like to see someone in this forum eat all those grubs and worms and spiders and everything else and build all those shelters, and climbing huge cliffs while giving people a boatload of information. It's not like he's a weak person, climbing Mount Everest at the age of 23, and sailing across the Arctic in a small raft (and he was in the SAS).

I really love this knife, it's made of great materials with superb quality and finish (and design). However, I do think it's overpriced

All of the knives you see here are made to order by hand, using the stock removal method one at a time using basic machinery, each from scratch right down to the last thread on the handle fasteners. Heat treatment and leather craft are all done in house - nothing at all is farmed out to others - to ensure full control and sole authorship are maintained.

Its a custom knife. Its not churned out in a factory in Taiwan in 12 minutes. Besides that it has a fairly unique steel and IMHO its better lookin than any of those Bark River and Busse Blades that HD posted.

I'd love to have one but I'd drop a grand on a Hattori Gyuto first, but I wouldn't bring it up or post it on this website. Sheesh.

HD is Sarah Palin.

Enjoy that knife HD.

I don't really care he was sleeping in hotel or wilderness, but just like to learn some basic survival skills and have a fun.

Maybe I would drop 500$ for a knife made in vanadis 4E.
I've some knives custom made in RWL 34 in Europe for about 200$

But hey, you must also pay for the name :p

I probably shouldn't have, but I ordered the Bear Grylls knife from Bayley Knives some time ago. Before the "hotel scandal". It seems Bear occasionally slept in hotels rather than get eaten alive by mosquitos. Smart man. So here it is. RWL steel. Micarta handles. Hand made. The Ultimate Hotel Survival Knife.

Im looking for a knife like bears as it small and people will not run away when they see it and there is a 4 year waiting list !!! ( i like the one with the teeth) Rob Bayley said to me get a Falkniven S1, ive never had a knife and need HELP PLZ cheers

Wait wait wait wait wait. Is this company british? I thought all knives made and sold in the UK had to be stab-proof with blunt tips.

uh uh rise chicken uh uh rise chicken

if you get this then you are probably in my age bracket

I luckily don't have a TV and it seems I am not missing much. Having checked the Bayley knives website, the knife in question looks very OK something like a cross-breed between an F1 and Extrema Ratio, although the price might be an issue for such a relatively unknown brand/maker.

For all you guys out there that complain about the price of the knife that Bear Grylls uses. If you cant afford one that means that you are no expert on this knife. it takes Rob Bayley 25 hours to make a single knife, he charges 350 British Pounds for each knife that works out that he earns 14 Pounds an hour. some of you are complaining that it is not value for money, well untill you actually buy one and feel the quality and the craftsmanship that is in this knife then you have no idea what you are talking about.
I have one. I waited a year for mine and during that year sometimes I was frustraited/Users/williambonney/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2009/baley knife/DSC01692.JPG but when it turned up the other day, the first thing I said is that it was worth the wait. as far as the cost goes! Well! It cost more to service my car, a plumber will charge you twice that to come to your house to fix a leak.
I am ordering another knife for my son. I have had loads of knifes over the years, but there is something about this one that makes you not want to put it down. buy one and see what I mean. untill then. Well! you know..
