Van Dyke. Keep it trimmed pretty tight to please my lady, and periodically I go through with a tweezers and pluck out the WHITE hairs :grumpy: I hafta shave my neck and cheeks now and then or I get like three long-ass hairs sprouting in odd places
Speaking of long-ass hair! Mine is dang near to my belt again... daughter and I have appointments tomorrow to get ours cut, gonna donate the ponytails to Locks of Love  What a bizzare feeling to know that some poor innocent cancer patient is walking around with a wig made of my tresses! Anyway it's a tradition; I started doing it in honor of a friend who survived pancreatic cancer and now I let it grow out for a couple years and chop it all off. Saves me dozens of dollars a year on haircuts! :D

I guess I was a solider to long, I have let it go and got to the point that my daughter says it makes me look distinguished but I never get to the point of being comfortable with it so off it goes.

Beards..... They grow on ya.

Last year, rockin' it with the southern rock chin hair and the 'way up the crick' beard....

This year, it is just like all over hairy and long, though not as long as the chin hair last year.

My sister's friend told me that I had the best beard he had ever seen. And younger people of a certain forward type regularly ask to touch it.

This summer, for variety.....

And this is one of the more recent shots, around pumpkin time.

When I was a kid, I started growing a beard at the age of 12, which was early for my peers. I was told once, "you spit, and the ground grows hair".

PS - I have gotten used to mine, but really it is mostly to avoid pain, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pseudofolliculitis_barbae

I once pulled a hair out of my neck, about 3/4th of an inch long, of which only 1/32nd of an inch was showing, the rest was curled around under the skin. I saved that one.

Full beard all the way, haven't shaved it since I was a teenager. I never did like trying to keep myself clean shaven. Too much work.
Now that I have a job, I keep a fairly clean beard, but when I was in college I would let it get like "grizzly adams" according to my wife.

I'm 18 and have no trace of a beard whatsoever :( I know it'll come in though. Yea, It'll come in. It will definitely come in. I know it will.

Been there, youngster. I HAD to shave until I was in my 30's, otherwise I just looked ridiculous. Well, I still look ridiculous... but you know what I mean.

Cheese an rice, I just realized this thread has 5 pages of responses in less than a day. What the heck is wrong with us?!?:foot:

Goatee, which I would class as a type of beard. I used to have a full-on beard, but the ladeees preferred the goat;)

Having to shave every day on deployment left me with a lifelong habit I think, if I don't shave I don't feel completely clean. Used to skip 3-4 days at a clip, grow a goatee etc. Now it's a shave every day. Darn you U.S. Army:mad:

Full beard and pony tail all gray and white with a few black streaks. Had a beard all my life. When I was in my early 20's I quickly found out that shaving is a losing battle, and why go for the feminen bare face look anyways? Be a man and let it sprout, and that's the way its been ever since.

I don't wear a beard, I grow a beard for I am bearded.

I hope to one day grow a classic like Scott Gossman's ( he has really nailed that Mt Man look I really want ! ) but until that day it's just a Goatee for me....

I started sporting a goatee about ten years ago and have stuck with it. I have always looked young for my age and I wanted to visually "age" myself. About two years ago I shaved it off and I looked like a young Barry Manilow, so I grew it right back.

Did have the full grizzly adams special some years back. For the last 16 years its been goatee (with 'tash) along with my shaved head (which is bald anyway!) Its now turning a nice shade of grey, which I'm rather pleased with.
Its distinguished I think you'll find;)

I'm clean-shaven here...

My dad isn't---but then again, he can't vote because he's not computer literate. He's had a beard and mustache since I was born years ago. I've never seen my father without facial hair, even in his high school yearbook mugs.

:D

Only about a third of us clean-shaven?:barf:

Having a decent shave using a decent razor is an excellent experience, especially if you leave it a couple of days...recent survey showed that fit women greatly preferred men with stubble to very clean shaven, beardies came last:D

I can only let it grow out on the weekends...not much of a goatee or beard:grumpy: A few more years with Uncle Sam and I'll finally be able to grow it out:thumbup:
