Becker BK1 Brute pass around

List is closed for now but some adjustments may be made. Anyone not on the list, maybe I'll do a second pass around or something.

It's on its way to Psyop. I threw in a sandwich bag of pitchwood which also should go to the gathering.

Just got back from the Gathering. The Brute made the rounds there. MWTIC took it for a while and liked it so much that his BK9 got turned into a Bruteish thing. Maybe he will post a mod thread. My camera got broken so I have no pics. I did pic up a BK4 so I will do a comparison this week with the 4 and 9 post pics and then get it headed to Clich. Ethans nephew got the Brute and killed a whole bunch of trees with it. The thing is still very sharp! Somehow the yellow ranger band got lost but a bunch of people got to play with it and we all had fun.

Cool man, if anybody wants to make a leather retention strap for that thing, go for it. That yellow rubber band is of no consequence. Tell me you remembered the doug fir pitchwood.

I sure did. I took 1 piece out for myself and the rest of it disappeared real fast! I'm not sure who all got some, others brought fatwood as well.

Hey I found of a pic of the Brute :)

The BK1 Brute is a great looking knife. Anyone have any insight if Ka-Bar will be re-introducing it? BTW, I am new to knives. Is the blade design on the BK1 considered a recurve?

EDIT: What is the length of the BK1 blade?

The Brute was so popular I never got a chance to do more then hold it once at the Gathering LOL

So if I'm still in the rotation that would be great, I will take care of the sheath strap problem ;)

Yes, that blade type is a recurve. I can't quite remember if Ka-Bar is making it in the future.

The Brute has a 9.5 inch blade and is 15 inches overall. Kabar will be making the Brute. They are hoping to release it in 2013. I would guess we will hear something official around Shot show next January if all goes well.

Thanks B.Mauser. How do you think the BK1 compares to the BK9, in terms of control and usefulness, both being about the same length?

Having had the opportunity to use both a bk 9 and a bk1, I'd say the 9 is a better chopper though Bill Siegle did do a good job of sharpening this one so it's decent now. It sucked before though.

Thanks for the passaround. I have been crazy busy with work and the gathering trip and catching back up at home again. I got time today to do my promised chop off. First off I will say I like the Brute. The squared off part on the spine is great for a baton. In my chop off It was about dead even between the 9 and the Brute with the 9 maybe winning. To be fair my 9 has a very nice convex if I do say so myself. The 4 didnt hold a candle to either of them, but that very well could have been user error as I just got it and have not gotten the hang of it yet. Now for the pics!

1. The Brute
2. Machax in Nixs dangler
3. The King

Me too! it was so popular at the Gathering I only got to see it from afar LOL. I aint entirely sure if I ever even got to hold it, but it sure looks wicked in person!
