Becker "Move Your Butt" Challenge - July 2014

My results:

5k - 23:54 (last year 23:39)
72nd place of 484 men
9th place of 50 men age 35-39

10k - 51:39 (last year 53:06)
80th place of 261 men
14th place of 35 men age 35-39

1 mile time is unofficial since it is not actually timed - 7:10 (last year 7:06)

My 1 mile and 5k were a few seconds slower, but my 10k was about a minute and a half faster. Overall I'm happy with my runs. The 1 mile started at 11:00pm on the 3rd. The 5k started at 11:25pm on the 3rd. And the 10k started at 12:15am on the 4th.

Respectable times! What was (were) course(s) like?

Thanks man but drinking 15-20 millers ices is being a drunk POS. Though i love it. I'm 28 and ashamed of the condition i'm in. I'm a strong as it is but can get stronger. Running is something i'll never do like to walk miles but never run like to lift weights. Used to run faster than alot of people but mostly body just for power now. Can curl 40 lbs weights forever. No sh*t. Been a lasy b*tch though lately. Just puked and now drinking vokda & Mug RB. Not good in the least. Fun but not healthy for the body. But need the yin and yan in life though.

BTW like your Rotweiler.

LOL! You better start hydrating so it hurts less tomorrow! Just make the commitment to change stuff come Monday. It can happen.

The rottie in the pic is Oz - best dog ever. We also have his son, Zack. Love him but he's more of handfull.

Enjoy the weekend - not that you need any encouragement! LOL. And try to get back on track on Monday. We're here for you!

All the courses were out and back on the same road, each race just had a different turn around point. All the starts and finishes were the same place. We ran out a causeway from Dunedin, FL toward Honeymoon Island State Park. The course is pretty flat. There are three small bridges that we had to run up and over but other than that it was flat.

Well I stunk it up in June. A tight Achilles and plantar fascia sidelined me, and I just went into rest and heal mode because of an impending 10K.

However, I ran it on Friday and exceeded my goals. I wanted sub-50 and my chip time was 45:53. I was worried about my injury, but it was fine. My back was stiff, and my right hamstring was firing some SOS's because of the hills, but I gutted it out well enough to be back in Group A next year, I think. Mind you, this race has about 60K participants, so being up front helps. There were 57,171 finishers this year.

Anyway... 6.2 BP for July.

Just ran an easy three miles to work out some soreness.

9.2 BP for July.

Great work G! Was that a PB for you?

That's a great time. Way to go!

10 BP for July

5k (3.1 mile) race today. The Run Thru Hell in Tampa. It wasn't all that hellish. I guess in the past there were sections that ran through some of the trails and muddy areas at the park, but now it's all on paved sidewalks.

3+10=13 BP for July

Nice job! What were temps like?

Finished a nice 5 mile run. Went out with Christine and we were just planning on an easy 5k. We both felt good and the weather was surprisingly cool, so we just kept going. Very pleasant surprise.

31 BP for July.

Yeah, that's my only 10K official time, but it surpassed any training times. The first half also included my best mile and 5K times to date.

Is that what you call it? I thought I was croaking.
ETA: They call the hill at mile 3 "Cardiac Hill" for a reason.

The temps weren't too bad. I think it was in the 80's already at the 8AM start time.

My time was 23:10 (23:54 was my Midnight Run 5k time on the 3rd)
I placed 3rd of 8 in my age group.
I placed 18th of 79 men.
I place 18th of 154 men and women.

[SARCSM]So I started off July with a bang today....swam out to the warning buoy in Damariscotta lake today twice, at least 100m round trip. So, maybe, a 200m swim for a total of, like, uh......0.01 BP. :dripping with sarcasm: [/SARCSM]

Cool. I wish I was a better swimmer. Haven't spent any real time swimming since I was a teenager.

Thing about swimming is, if you don't swim for two weeks, you have to start over. Swimming fitness disappears faster than my paycheck. Really, the only ways to go are either to not swim (at ALL), or start and never stop.

And earned every single one of 'em.

The rest, I'm beginning to discover, is trying to manage an ever dwindling (at different rates for different people, of course) supply of personal & physical resources as we reach the apex of our fitness and glide down the other side of the parabola towards true, old age. Spent the weekend with my folks - my dad is 82, my mom is 80 - my dad is a long distance runner of life, though he never ran much. My mom not so much......I know I am, but forget to remember it a lot, lucky to have them both still around and so vital. They spent the month of June (pretty much) traveling through BC, Canada.

All the more reason to get back on the wagon for me I guess. There......I think I just convinced myself.
