Becker "Move Your Butt" Challenge - July 2014

Cool. I wish I was a better swimmer. Haven't spent any real time swimming since I was a teenager.

I've been in-and-out of swimming since I was a teenager. I've finally committed to swimming at least twice each week, and I'm already feeling better - more mobility in my joints and less stiffness in my muscles. Do you have a pool near you? Thankfully, my gym has a half-Olympic-length pool, and it's regularly empty when I typically exercise.

My results:

5k - 23:54 (last year 23:39)
72nd place of 484 men
9th place of 50 men age 35-39

10k - 51:39 (last year 53:06)
80th place of 261 men
14th place of 35 men age 35-39

1 mile time is unofficial since it is not actually timed - 7:10 (last year 7:06)

My 1 mile and 5k were a few seconds slower, but my 10k was about a minute and a half faster. Overall I'm happy with my runs. The 1 mile started at 11:00pm on the 3rd. The 5k started at 11:25pm on the 3rd. And the 10k started at 12:15am on the 4th.

Congrats on improving your 10K, that's great! Do you plan to continue improving your times, or are you happy with where you're at?

Cool. There is a pool at a gym nearby - just have to find the time to use it.:D

Logged 4.1 miles walking on Friday the fourth between hiking at the ranch and then went to a big 4th event. Had to park about 1/2 mile away and then got to the event and realized it was going to rain so walked back to discover my wife lost her phone and I ran back to the event... got extremely lucky that a detective for the municipality the event was at found her phone (1500+ in attendance) so ran to meet him, and then force marched it back to the car..
Got a 1.9 mile walk on Saturday, it is getting Texas hot down here and that short walk almost broke me in the heat, lol.
This morning did a 4.9 mile bike ride before weights.

7.2 + 5 = 12.2 for the month

This morning I got 1.5 mile on the treadmill and 4.7 miles on the bike.. 2.6 + 2.4 = 5 ttd

Walked down & up 9 flights of stairs with 40 lbs (a guess 36x28 laundry bag full) of laundry. Not a huge workwork but it's a start . Will walk 4 miles tomarrow.

Rough start to the month, but I finally have something to report:

1/2 mile swim on the 4th: 3 pts;
3 miles walking on the 5th: 3 pts;
2 mile walk last night: 2 pts:

8 BPs so far for July.

I got to do some kayaking for the first time, too. Just around a fairly small lake - but got a feel for it, and nobody fell in. So we'll definitely do that again!

Thanks
My goal is to increase my mileage. If my time increases at the same time that's a bonus.

Just ran an easy three miles to work out some soreness.

9.2 BP for July.

Brisk 2-mile walk. Still working out some soreness. (And working off that Maple Pecan Porter. :D)

11.2 BP.

Ugh, so tired. Was planning on doing a second run today, but the heat and humidity have taken their toll. Maybe it's for the best.

Relatively easy "homemade" 5K. 3.1 miles.
Muscles are getting better, but left knee is still tender from the cold-boot pounding I gave it during the 10K.
Wore a brace this evening that helped a lot.

14.3 BP.

maybe some ice and NSAIDS are in order!

Slow start to the month.

3.7 mile walk last night + 3.6 tonight = 7.3 BPs

This owl was hanging around on the powerlines right in the middle of the road where I was walking. I couldn't believe he sat there and let me take his picture with my cell phone and then walk under him without ever flying off. Wish I'd had a better camera.
